RIP Norman Whitfield

#1 Post by earendel » Thu Sep 18, 2008 6:10 am

Co-writer of a number of Motown hits for the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Edwin Starr and The Undisputed Truth, at age 67. He just recently emerged from a diabetes-related coma.
"Elen sila lumenn omentielvo...A star shines on the hour of our meeting."

The local "oldies (60s/70s/80s) station played a couple of Norman Whitfield songs back-to-back in tribute this morning.

Ain't Too Proud to Beg, I Heard It Through the Grapevine and Car Wash.

If *I* had been programming it (:)), I would have gone the Motown girl group (non-Diana Ross division) route.

Needle in a Haystack and Really Sayin' Something by the Velvelettes and Too Many Fish in the Sea by the Marvelettes.

I remember all three songs with great affection from my CYO dance days.
