MLB has released its tentative schedule for 2009, and the Cleveland Indians are scheduled to open the new Yankee Stadium on April 16, after the Yankees open the season with a nine-game road trip.

The Mets are also moving into a new stadium and will also open on the road for a week before their home opener with San Diego April 13.

This could be the latest baseball season ever, with the regular season scheduled to end October 4. The season begins April 5. Barring rainouts (or snowouts), the World Series will end anywhere from November 1 to November 5. The only other time baseball was played in November was 2001 when the season was extended a week due to the 9/11 cancellations.

I had no idea they put out a schedule so early. I thought it was January.

I have made lists.

But I only wrote down Arizona games in May, when it is not yet crushingly hot, and I left out the May dates on a few cooler Northren cities.

I have ten parks to visit, and am wondering if I can see them all in one summer. But not like that last trip, where every day was a travel day. I am leaving more time to explore the cities.

They touched on this briefly in last night's Phillies broadcast.

The Phillies have a weekend series at the new Yankee Stadium and the announcers were talking about how Phillies fans travel well and it might be a good chance to try and get tickets but getting tickets would proably be very tough.

They also mentioned in passing that it was a late schedule.
