We are leaving in a half hour to drive up to LA to see The Fratellis. I got floor tickets! I've been looking forward to this all day!

At first Emma and Jeff weren't going to go, because they don't like loud music, but they changed their minds. They both got earplugs and we aren't going to see the two opening acts.

I hope you are missing the opening acts because of the logistics of the mid-week late rush-hour drive to L.A. and not because you're "opening act snobs".

Whenever people (often proudly) mention that they always miss opening acts, I feel I have to point out that the first time I ever saw U2, Jewel, Barenaked Ladies, Prince, Paula Cole, Old 97's, Guster, Richard Thompson and Cheap Trick (and others, I'm sure) play live was when they opened for other acts. In nearly all cases, the headliner at one time was the opening act for someone.

We rush in because of traffic. The girls had homework and we wanted to eat dinner at home.

It was an awesome concert! They played a mix of songs from both Costello Music and Here We Stand. The only song they didn't play that I would have liked to have heard was Creeping up the Backstairs.

I found us some really awesome spots on a raised level just behind the handicapped seating area, just above the pit. We were right next to the rope and there was nobody in front of us. Both Emma and Jeff were able to sit down for a bit and still see the show. We were off to the side, so we had an unobstructed view of the stage.

We also had a lovely view of a lot of blowsy women whispering in the usher's ears and giving them lap dances to try to get into the pit. One women was at it for about five minutes and wouldn't take no for an answer and had to be escorted out by three people. She kept coming back and they didn't let her in. I also saw women, accompanied by their boyfriends try to use this method to get in. They would whisper in the usher's ear, while the boyfriend looked on. Gross.

I had to look this up.
blow·zy also blow·sy (blou'zē) pronunciation
adj., -zi·er also -si·er, -zi·est -si·est.

1. Having a coarsely ruddy and bloated appearance.
2. Disheveled and frowzy; unkempt: blowzy hair.

[From obsolete blowze, beggar woman, slattern.]

It was the most descriptive word I could think of. I didn't want to call them sluts, because then I would be making a judgement call about their lifestyle. Besides, the word blowsy really does fit what they looked like.

I agree! But at the Alicia Keys concert her warmup act was Jordin Sparks, so there were tons of 9 yo girls who admired Jordin at the concert, then after she performed the next act an R&B MTV style singer had some slutinsky on the stage with him as part of his act doing a lapdance on him during half of his set. I felt disgusted for the parents who brought their pre teen daughters to this concert. I think the main performer should be responsible for the quality and content of the opening acts and certainly the venue should regulate or apply a ratings system to show content if the acts don't control themselves appropriately. We protect kids from sexual movie content but what about Live shows? Vegas has always had "adults only" stage shows, maybe it's time to do the same for concerts too?

I don't think that The Fratellis had any control over the blowsy women in the audience.

What pleased me the most was having my girls see that the slutty behavior was not rewarded by the event staff.

Other girls might have decided they could do the behavior better and get the results they wanted.

Not that I know from personal experience or anything.

:)

Maddie made a comment, "Don't they realize that they need to be prettier to get away with that kind of thing!"

There ya go!

They are learning more than we can imagine.

If they were prettier they wouldn't have to do that kind of thing.
