Today's Jeopardy -- 9/16/08

Today's Final Jeopardy asked a question about U.S. Presidents. One guy answered:
George Bush, Sr.
That response was accepted without comment, even though there was never a president by that name. Their rules seem pretty flexible.

My guess is that they viewed the 'Sr' as disambiguation as opposed to part of the name - similar to them writting George Bush - the elder one, or George Bush (the father of W) - since he is usually not referred to with his initials as opposed to W.

Putting this into spoiler space on the assumption that if I did not, someone might reverse engineer the Presidential question, and be disappointed
But then I decided to mention 42 +- 1 in any case.
I have wondered how many reigning monarchs with a unique first name of those who have held that throne, choose to style themselves as "I", in the assumption that others will follow. Fairly certain that Elizabeth I (1558-1603) did not. I try to be careful, not saying "Elizabeth I" when referring to contemperaneous communication
So I suppose anybody naming their kid may be renaming themselves, but in this case it should be GHWB and GWB, properly.
I wonder if BUSH-41 would have sufficed.

Frogman --
Your interpretation might be right, in the same sense that they might accept:
"George Bush the taller," or "George Bush the first," or "George Bush, the father of Jeb." They probably wouldn't accept "George Bush, the smarter."

Was it just us, or were the clues not that difficult?
In fact, Maddie wondered aloud whether they were using Kids' clues, since they had all been Kids' JEOPARDY champs in the past.
Really, the level of difficulty was roughly equivalent to a Teen tournament.

I played NTN last night and one of the answers was George Bush Sr.

Aside from the question difficulty, how was yesterday's show? I saw Monday's episode and thought the contestants had more personality at twelve than they did now.
The whole "where are they now" theme seems more appropriate for a talk show than for giving them another turn at the game.

Hey! You stop that.
If they don't have this competition if five or six years time, my daughter will have to become a Celebrity to get back on the show.

I'll say the same thing to Maddie that I say to all the other contestants who've been there: She can have another chance as soon as everyone else has had their first chance!

LOL - I had no idea that I was telling you that.
I thought we were talking about uly's name, not what uly calls you.

uly (notice how I just used the lower case 'u', even though it offends all grammatical rules about starting sentences with an upper case letter) has consistently been spelling my name with a lower case 'm', as you used to. I though you had noticed that. I mentioned that I would occasionally capitalize his name as a sort of confession, to discount my own annoyance. Sorry for the confusion.

I know how to get back at him - consistently use a "U" (as opposed to "u") when using his Bored handle.

Unless, of course, if you are Annie, then she does add it to show respect.
