Wedding Blog: The Days After

BD and now SIL were spending another day on Cape Cod, but GW and I filled our cars and headed home Monday with BFF and goddaughter in hers, HS and GF in mine. The gown and slip got stuffed into the car with a lot less care than before. So did the tuxes, which I was returning near to HS's apartment (thanks, Mens Wearhouse, for that tux return policy!). It all fit, including the two centerpieces (ours and GF's) and the other reception remnants.

The drives home were uneventful. Tux dropoff was simple, and a lot drier than the pickup, which had happened during a 2"/hour rainfall. I thanked HS several times for his groomsmanship. He has become much more civilized since GF's arrival on the scene. I forget sometimes what he's really capable of.

The cats had survived their time without us, though GW said they scattered (can only two cats dashing off be considered a "scatter"?) when she came in the door. The house was still there, too. No phone messages. Typical Saturday junk mail in the box. How boring. Just what we needed. Unwinding was the major task of the day. Well, that and some laundry. I had to go back to work the next day. GW had arranged to take the week off, but the other major player in QA at my work was out on a regularly scheduled annual vacation, and I couldn't take the week as well. We did some more packing for the PODS unit, as much as we could without BD to supervise, anyway.

The HC came home on Tuesday. SIL was busy tying down and rearranging the boxes already in the PODS container by the time I got home. I didn't need to do much more than watch. Last to go in would be BD's mattress and box spring. They had already taken apart the bed frame and brought it to the PODS. I gave the company a call to arrange for the pickup on Thursday. The local office is very close to the house, which is good to know should we ever need storage space. We were impressed by the container and their seeming efficiency overall. That pretty much covered Tuesday for everyone.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Who took the wedding presents home? (I remember that we corralled family members with vans to take the gifts back to my in-laws. We had a brunch the next day at my in-laws for immeidate family and the wedding party, where we opened the gifts. )

Thanks for letting those of who weren't invited ( ) to experience the wedding through your eyes. :)

They all came home with us for the time being. Since everyone knew they had to drive out to CA, most of the large gifts had been given for the shower. Most of what was left was checks. One thing I forgot to mention is that the florist had another great idea for these. She bought and decorated a birdcage and stand, which hung next to a table near the entry to the reception. People stuck the envelopes through the bars into the cage. The table was intended for any other gifts that came in, and there were a couple. The gifts were all opened and tabulated for thank-yous before the HC left. Checks were deposited so that they would have some available liquid assets for the trip and beyond.

Which reminds me of something else I forgot to mention. The florist had also come up with an antique-style map of Newport. She framed it, placed it on the table with the cage next to it, and offered pens for people to sign it and leave their best wishes. That rests in the PODS unit until their housing comes through.

That's a very cute idea!
