High and somewhat dry

#1 Post by rayxtwo » Sun Sep 14, 2008 3:18 pm

Well I got out before most of the water got inside. Got the vaulable stuff up high before exiting. The creek behind and on the side of the house merges into one channel which causes a backwash, and sent about 2 1/2 to 3 feet of water inside the house. Everything that was below that point or got knocked over is ruined. No luck getting in touch with the insurance man till tomorrow.

It was so early in the morning that no one was awake. I was yellilng at the top of my lungs trying to wake up the neighbors (the water was already past their doorways). I couldn't raize two of the three that I knew were home. A cop came down the street and I asked him to use his loud speaker to wake them up and he couldn't figure out how to use it. I told him to turn on his siren, but he only turned it on for about 15 seconds. He told me he was going to get the fire department, and he left. Eventually everyone got out safe.

See you all soon. I know that there others in my neighborhood that got it a lot worse that I did. I'll talk to you as soon as I can.

Oh, wow! I'm so sorry for the damage and mess you are dealing with. You're a good guy for trying to help out the neighbors.

I hope everyone is OK and I hope you have flood insurance.

That is one scary thing. Was there any warning?

Not much of a warning unless you had the news or the internet on. I'm on a friends computer and I have to go.

See you soon.

Ray,

Please let us know what we can do. I have a network of people who would send quilts tomorrow to you or anyone in your community.

If there is anything you need just post it. We will make sure it is done.

I am sorry about the flooding, but I am glad that you and your family are safe.

My sister just called from Louisville and said they had 70mph winds and over 200,000 are without power. It sort of hit there without much warning as they thought it would go north of them.

The Ryder Cup is playing there this week (at least it was supposed to). I imagine they are scrambling to get things back in order right now.

I'll find out if the church up the street needs anything to give out to people. I'm sure they'll take almost anything anyone wants to send.

I'll check in again tomorrow. Thanks for the offer.

Having gone through this myself, I know firsthand how NONfun it is.

Good luck. My thoughts are certainly with you.

Count me among those who are powerless (in more ways than one).

The Cup is still on schedule (as is the Buffett Cup for bridge players); there are reports of tree damage at Valhalla, but nothing too severe. The problem is power, making sure that all of the hotels and motels have it for the guests that start arriving today.

All of us are OK, but our car didn't weather the storm (I've posted elsewhere about this). We have no electricity (one of the reasons I came to work was because there's light here).
