A Metrolink commuter train collided head-on with a freight train late this afternoon near our local station in suburban Chatsworth.

At least 10 deaths reported so far, and over 50 seriously injured; these tolls will rise as the emergency rescue workers continue in full force. Frantic families are gathered in several locations throughout the community and many passengers are still unaccounted for.

Please send prayers this way, on this night when our friends in Texas are also so deep in our thoughts and prayers.

Just saw coverage of this. Terrible carnage, and the injury and death tolls are expected to climb.

I thought the same thing -- how could this possibly happen.

I hope somebody didn't put a system on autopilot somewhere.
