So, what's up with you this weekend? Nothing on tv other than some foreign thing called "Sunday Ticket". In something called "HD". Who needs that? Are you like me? Do you kind of just tune out eleventy hundred channels of 'sports crap', close your eyes and dream of the Italian Renaissance? Yes? Then this weekend is for you!
Timeline, September 12-14
"Real Men of Genius"
Match up each of the Renaissance artists with the year of their birth (10 points each), along with one of their well known works (10 points each). As you can see, the mid 1400’s were lousy with brilliance. But, if you manage to weed out the outsiders, I think the ages of the middle kids can be figured out.
You've also got 5 bogies to identify at 5 points each and a bonus question worth 25 points for a total of 250 (!) points this weekend.
1. 1267
2. 1378
3. 1386
4. 1401
5. 1445
6. 1452
7. 1475
8. 1483
9. 1500
10. 1518
Bonus: Which of the four are also Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? (5 points each plus 5 for the name of their sensai)
Artist Well (2 Bogies)
- Botticelli
Caravaggio
Cellini
da Vinci
Donatello
Fra Filippo Lippi
Giotto
Ghiberti
Masaccio
Michelangelo
Raphael
Tintoretto
Art Well (3 Bogies)
- Adoration of the Magi

"Real Men of Genius"
1. 1267 = Giotto = Adoration of the Magi (others did this also, but I can't find anything else of his on the list, so it must go here)
2. 1378 = Ghiberti = Gates of Paradise (the nickname given to the doors by Michelangelo)
3. 1386 = Donatello = a problem because you have at least two of his works in the list. The more famous one is Judith and Holofernes, which is probably what you want, but he also did a Feast of Herod. But Judy and Headless are way better know, so I will use that for this one.
4. 1401 = Masaccio = Pisa Polyptych
5. 1445 = Botticelli. This is tricky: my favorite painting of all time is his Birth of Venus, but he also did a wonderful Adoration of the Magi (as did many others), and his actually includes what might be a self-portrait. But I will say Birth of Venus for old Sandy.
6. 1452 = Leonardo da Vinci = Ginevra de’ Benci
7. 1475 = Michelangelo = Pieta (several; others did them, also, but that is the only work of his that I think is here)
8. 1483 = Raphael = School of Athens (which, interestingly includes portraits of many artists, including DaVinci and Michelangelo)
9. 1500 = Cellini = Perseus Holding the Head of Medusa
10. 1518 = Tintoretto = yet another problem. His Worship of the Golden Calf is pretty famous, and probably want you want, but he also (like just about everyone else) did an Adoration of the Magi. But I'll go with the Calf for this one.
Bonus: Which of the four are also Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? (5 points each plus 5 for the name of their sensai)
The Toitles were Raphael, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Donatello
The Sensai was, um, a rat
Artist Bogies
Caravaggio
Fra Filippo Lippi
Art Well (3 Bogies)
Ecstasy of St. Teresa (most famous is Bernini)
Feast of Herod (several artists, including Donatello)
Portrait of a Condottierre (Bellini?)
Dang, forgot to spoil it, so I edited it to do just that. Please don't hit me.

This is NOT a strong category for me. I'll go for the only points I can.
Bonus: Which of the four are also Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? (5 points each plus 5 for the name of their sensai)
Leonardo (Da Vinci), Donatello, Rafael, and Michelangelo. Their sensei was Master Splinter. My son LOVED the Turtles. I kinda liked 'em, too. Certainly much more than MOST of the other stuff he watched.
Birth of Venus Botticelli
Pieta Caravaggio

Some notes on this one, mostly in answer to wintergreen, although I don't know if he'll read the answers.
Timeline, September 12-14
"Real Men of Genius"
1. 1267
Giotto - Adoration of the Magi
Yeah, you pretty much can't swing a cat in Italy without hitting an Adoration of the Magi, but I was trying to do well known works and, when I think Giotto, I think Adoration of the Magi.
2. 1378
Ghiberti - Gates of Paradise
I think these would be mindblowing to see in person, although you really couldn't do it justice just from the logistics of what they are.
3. 1386
Donatello - Judith and Holofernes
Okay, you got me on this one, I didn't know he did a Feast of Herod. Well, until I went and looked at it, then it was a big DUH!
4. 1401
Masaccio - Pisa Polyptych
5. 1445
Botticelli - Birth of Venus
Another where I went with the best known, I originally had my favourite La Primavera. Some 'art appreciation student' once pointed out all the technical errors in Birth of Venus to me and now I can't enjoy it.
6. 1452
Leonardo da Vinci - Ginevra de' Benci
I should have used Mona Lisa, but I am not a da Vinci fan and this is one of the few things of his that I really like.
7. 1475
Michelangelo - Pieta
He did about a kajillion Pieta, but of course I'm referring to THE Pieta. I saw a real size replica when the Vatican Art Museum Tour came to Denver, I can't even comprehend how it must be to see the 'real' one, even if some asshole with a hammer forced them to put it behind glass.
8. 1483
Raphael - School of Athens
I used this rather than 'them two angels at the bottom of the Sistine Madonna' because it's a fun "Where's Waldo" type piece.
9. 1500
Cellini - Perseus Holding the Head of Medusa
10. 1518
Tintoretto - Worship of the Golden Calf
Bonus: Which of the four are also Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? (5 points each plus 5 for the name of their sensai)
I could even give the colours and weapons, because I'm such a dork. But I won't.
Donatello
Leonardo
Michelangelo
Raphael
Master Splinter
Bogies:
Caravaggio
Fra Filippo Lippi
Ecstasy of St. Teresa
Feast of Herod
Portrait of a Condottierre
Ecstacy of St. Teresa and Portrait of a Condotierre is Bellini and Bernini, originally two of the possibilities for the main game until I started doing the spacing.
The Feast of Herod I was referencing was Fra Filippo Lippi, who was also too close in dates, so I just moved them both to the bogies.

Me too. Me too......
The theme music to the cartoon still gets stuck in my head on occasion. It's quite catchy....

You were stout of heart for at least checking in, and you've got the participation points to prove it!

You're welcome. I have always given participation points in any game I've done. The amount varies due to difficulty and possible points, but it's always at least one, to show my appreciation for the read.
