My parents were NRA members back in the 70's when it was all about education and not advocacy. They taught me how to shoot real good. I respect guns too much to let any around my kids...

My parents were NRA members back in the 70's when it was all about education and not advocacy. They taught me how to shoot real good. I respect guns too much to let any around my kids...

I got to shoot bottles and cans out on the levee when I was a kid. Now you can't even go out there because of the paranoia overload that happened 7 years ago...

Tomorrow is the 20th anniversary of me getting shot in the head with a BB by my Dad. I love guns.....

I was a member in the 1970s because it was the only way to be certified as a Junior Rifle Instructor. Then I got a fund-raising letter full of lies about me (I was a Dem even then) and fired back a hostile reply. I got a conciliatory reply from the president; he knew that they needed every person they could get teaching firearms safety to children. I let my membership lapse when I moved on from the junior riflers.

Stopping to marvel over Almach (who is still VERY up to its old tricks of "here i am! no, i'm here!" with it's C component) I head onward toward Perseus for an old favourite. The NGC891 is a very fine example of an edge-on galaxy. Much like the "Sombrero" in all but size, the NGC891 displays a bulging central core, delightful averted resolution at the tilted edges and a most noticable dark dust lane which runs right through the central galactic core. Still smiling at the absolute resolution, I am my sights at the only one I can remember in this area at the moment, M2. This one is also a very striking globular in the dob. The rest has done my eyes well, for even at 26mm resolution walks out. And I'm walking out on studying for now... and going on to another (yep, another... ; ) globular. The M15. Why? Cuz this one breaks the rules. For the most part, globular clusters tend to look blue, but M15 is golden. Perhaps because it is a source of X-rays... Or that it may contain a nuetron star or black hole is what shifts its spectra. Maybe it's because it contains a planetary nebula... Does this speak to you? Then it should.... Because the M15 isn't playing the globular game the way it should, eh?
