Nobody's said anything yet about Fox's latest "game" show that premiered last night.

Teams of three face a wall moving towards them and must fit through oddly shaped holes in the wall (like those you see in cartoons when a character has just crashed through one at top speed) before it pushes them backwards into a pool of water. The teams wear uniforms of shiny silver mylar, which might be a selling point if one of the teams weren't named the "Beer Bellies". Mercifully, this show is only 30 minutes long.

I saw one promo for this and thought, "They must have their replacement shows ready early this year.".

I didn't see it, but I did see a video clip of the Japanese show upon which this apparently was based.

I didn't even know there was an American version. I still don't know why.

I DVR'd it and actually watched it. (was playing a Hold'em tourney until 3:30 AM--took 4th and caught up on some other shows--Moment of Truth and Duel)

I do not need to watch Hole in the Wall ever again.

I had it on, while I was doing other things. It seemed longer than 30 minutes. I didn't realize it was new. It seemed familiar. Maybe I've just seen a lot of previews. It's not clear to me how much leeway the contestants have in how they conform to the shape of the hole. E.g., if the hole implies that you're supposed to have an arm or leg extended, but you think you can get through the hole without doing that, is that copacetic? Also, if you break off big chunks of the styrofoam but don't fall into the water, is that okay?

Do they get lifelines?
Is the perimeter of the opening lined with either broken glass, metal spikes, flames or all of these?
Is the pool of water boiling?

Otherwise it sounds like horseplay around a pool - and we know that horesplay is banned. Is that really the whole show or just one of various challenges? If that is the whole show, then it sends like a bad sequence from America's Funniest Home Video (As an aside, can we sue that show for false advertising?) showing on an endless loop.

Maybe we can have models at the bottom of the pool holding briefcases with amounts of money in them and you can't get out of the pool until you sing all the lyrics correctly. Sort of a games show triathalon.

I guess the writers strike did take its toll. Am I the only one thinks this sounds like must-miss TV?

Of coursse, I could be wront and the show is really good and I'm jumping to contusions - but if I sound a bit snarky that is because my local buzztime place that I go to for lunch couldn't find the station that showed WWTBAM at lunch today on any of its other TVs and now I have to wait to make sure my recorder got it ;-(

I only watched a couple minutes of it, so I'm not sure of the rules. (Can a game like this be sophisticated enough for rules?) I think you can fit through the holes any way that's physically possible. Knocking out extra pieces of the wall probably does not count as a "clear".

There are four different rounds, but that's all there it to it. Get through the wall or go for a swim! (Lifeguards are standing by, if you need help getting out of the water.)

Well, if they are not even going to put into the pool sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads - the least that TPTB could do is toss in some ill tempered, mutated sea bass.

I'm still trying to figure out how in the world this show could have gotten green-lighted - it sounds like one of those fake shows listed in the Onion TV section (maybe it was and they took it for a real show by mistake, like those Harry Potter 'quotes' that show up every now and then - speaking of Harry Potter, didn't he surrender to Thomas Paine in Cornwall ending the war of 1776)?

BTW, if you remember the previous 'reality show' craze of the 70's, did anyone every catch that short-lived one, sponsored by BIC, where they try to get various ink stains out. I'm pretty sure it was called: "That's Indelible!"

It was already wildly successful in Japan and possibly some other countries. It was a simple matter of importing a new concept that has been proven elsewhere. I agree that it's something I'd watch once out of curiosity, but not a second time. But I thought the same thing about "Deal or No Deal," so what do I know?

I watched it last night.

This has to be one of the most useless and mindless game shows in U.S. history.

We need an over/under on how long this turkey will last.
