Yep. Prime Minister Stephen Harper called a federal election today. Guess when it is? October 14th, 2008. We don't mess around.

I think your avatar needs to be bilingual as well.
We are electing the whole government, including the Prime Minister. Currently, we have a minority government, the Conservatives, lead by Stephen Harper, garnered the most party votes, so Harper is the Prime Minister. The other parties, The Bloc Quebecois, Liberals, New Democrats, and several independants, together have more seats than the Conservatives, so they have quite a bit of control.peacock2121 wrote:Who are you electing?
Actually only the Governor General, Michaƫlle Jean, can dissolve Parliament and set the date for new elections.ontellen wrote:Yep. Prime Minister Stephen Harper called a federal election today. Guess when it is? October 14th, 2008. We don't mess around.
If I gave a shit (about the avatar, not that I don't give a shit about your elections-in fact I'm astounded and amazed and ditto Nitrah's poll envy question)I'd complain about the lack of an "e" on "National." But, with the Admiral being non compos corpus and all, I don't have any backup to help me with whatever it is I was not railing about.Partie L'apathie National wrote:EOM

That's the ticket! Let's blame Canada!
Just remember I always have your back, even though I no longer have mine....
Let's just go to random dates for US elections, any time from 6 months to 6 years after the last one, and 6 weeks notice for each new one. THAT would force the politicians to produce instead of just bloviating, being uncertain when they'll have to justify their positions to the constituents.nitrah55 wrote:Six weeks.
They're going to go from calling elections to an election in six weeks.
Is there such a thing as poll-envy?
