We're going to the polls!

Yep. Prime Minister Stephen Harper called a federal election today. Guess when it is? October 14th, 2008. We don't mess around.

We are electing the whole government, including the Prime Minister. Currently, we have a minority government, the Conservatives, lead by Stephen Harper, garnered the most party votes, so Harper is the Prime Minister. The other parties, The Bloc Quebecois, Liberals, New Democrats, and several independants, together have more seats than the Conservatives, so they have quite a bit of control.

Six weeks.

They're going to go from calling elections to an election in six weeks.

Is there such a thing as poll-envy?
I am about 25% sure of this.

Actually only the Governor General, Michaëlle Jean, can dissolve Parliament and set the date for new elections.

But, with the Admiral being non compos corpus and all, I don't have any backup to help me with whatever it is I was not railing about.
Well, then

Let's just go to random dates for US elections, any time from 6 months to 6 years after the last one, and 6 weeks notice for each new one. THAT would force the politicians to produce instead of just bloviating, being uncertain when they'll have to justify their positions to the constituents.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.
