It does look like we're having a remarkably busy weekend on the Bored. It's taken me an hour and a half to read through all the threads that have been updated since I logged on yesterday morning.

And that was with skimming right over the long, gratuitous gus-hunting thread! :P

Because I'm a bad. bad girl. I haven't been to the church I used to go to for over a year and haven't found another. I've become a bit disenamored of some things and am mulling them in my feeble brain on a regular basis.

8:30 service, 9:30 Sunday school.

So there!

And, Mr. K -- why were you here harassing folks, instead of in church yourownself?

Missed the gus hunt.

Here's my contribution to the next one.

I'm with Beebs. Every church building doesn't seem to have much of a fit with me. Hence the guilt speech from my mother.

I was also going to insert "residual Lutheran guilt" in my reply, but thought your ma's voice covered it...(the guilt part, that is).

My grandma went to chuch every Sunday until she got too sick and frail to go anymore, but I think she recognized that for her, it was more social than regligious. It worked.

I like Herm. Makes for a goodish fit with her avatar.

Whattya say, Nancy? You ready to become outreach coordinator for the One and Only Unified Church of the Subconsciously Passive/Aggressive and Presidential Noncandidate/Candidates?

I am SO there! Is this one of those churches that you can attend from home in your jammies with a mug of coffee in one hand and the newspaper spread all around you on the floor?

I'm thinkin' we may be on to something.

The church every Sunday thing has always been a puzzlement to me.

Like - I wonder what has people do that.

I know there has to be a reason and some value, I just haven't heard what that is for myself.

Some folks find it a way to stay connected to something larger than themselves.

It's not the only way, nor necessarily the best way, but it works for some folks.

It is possibly less necessary for folks who have other ways to be connected, though I am not trying to speak for anyone else. Whatever I got from attending church as a teenager was replaced with spending time reading and thinking about other kinds of philosophical and spiritual ideas. Also, organized groups can be a big turnoff for me when they become more concerned with being right than they are with love. That's why I like the buddhists and the Unitarians.
