WWTBAM Bored

It's allowed me to reconnect with several of my favorite former students in the last couple of weeks. Once you connect with one or two, your profile starts showing up as linked to theirs, so other friends of theirs can contact you, and so forth. It's Six Degrees of Separation on crack.

I used LinkedIn - which is a business oriented network site.

If you search for a person they will tell you if they are within 3 degress or less. I am amazed how often seemingly random searches turn out to be only two or three levels away.

The group of people from this bored who are on there is becoming quite large. Please feel free to add me. I'm not certain if Cindy will pull up my account, or if you have to go through Lucinda. I won't take any offense if you don't. It has been fun getting to know people a little better through that site. I mean, how often would someone kidnap you with pink fuzzy handcuffs on this bored? On second thought, don't answer that...lol

I noticed the other day when you posted your pictures, that it was through Facebook. I like that there is the picture option available. I also like the various levels of control for privacy for a person's account.

I bet your former students are happy to see you on there.

I ran across a group the other day that advocated for an age limit for Facebook participation.

The idea that anyone over 30 would post on Facebook completely weirded them out. I just had to laugh. If I can find it again I'll post the link and everybody who's OVER 30 needs to join!

I did notice that when I first started building my page the other day (I've had a page for almost a year, but it was just a placeholder) that one of the context-sensitive adds was always for a "social networking site" specifically designed for those over 40. Hmmmmm.

We could start our own Bored group on Facebook.

Or not.

We all seem to be finding each other.

I've received several friend requests from Bored folks, or ones I assume are BBs since our "Friends in Common" are BBs I know in real life. There are many BBs whose real names I don't know, and I find myself hesitating to just click to OK people. Then I think, "Hey, it's just a chat and message forum."

I wonder about giving people I might not really "know" access to the names of people I have on my Friends list. On the other hand, if someone has a Facebook account they've already put themselves out there.
