That is the name of a new book I just got. Y'all might remember last spring I mentioned that some guys who were writing their second book had interviewed me for it. Their first book Gridiron Gold ) told the tales of some famous (or infamous in some cases) high school football coaches here in Mississippi. Since it sold pretty well, they decided to write a second book ( Y'all vs Us) that tells the story of 15 of the best high school football rivalries in the state. They had over 200 rivalries nominated and boiled it down to 100, then 50, then 30 and finally the top 15 each had a chapter devoted to their rivalry. The Meridian/Oak Grove rivalry was one of those included.
Just reading our chapter got me even more fired up for some football than I already was. (hard to do during this time of year) I can't wait until mid-October when Oak Grove pays us a visit. It is always intense but I feel like some of the quotes (none of mine- I was complimentary to all) might just add a little more spice to our game that night.
The authors were pretty slick with their marketing. The books sold in any area that had a rivalry from area featured had dust jackets individualized to that rivalry. For instance, here in our town, you saw a Meridian player in full game uniform glaring across the cover at a player in an Oak Grove uniform. Even better, the back cover featured cheerleaders from each school glaring at one another.
If you love football, especially high school football, you will enjoy this book regardless of your location.
Well, I gotta go. We play some Yellowjackets from up in the Northern part of the state in about an hour and a half. I have to go get our new 10,000 watt P.A. stystem cranked up for some pre-game music and announcements.
