new security clearance requirement

We just received word that a new security policy is going to require those of us who have been with the government for 15 years or more and haven't undergone a clearance check in that time to undergo a new security clearance procedure. The procedure has to be completed by 30 September 2008; the first step is trying to pull together a list of people affected by this requirement. Estimates are that for our district it will be around 500 people, and I will probably be one of them - I've been in the same job that long and haven't had to have any kind of clearance check.

Let's hope they don't ask us about you.

What happens if he has to tell them about us?

Don't worry, Ear, it's painless.
Based on some of the work that we do, I've had a few security (clearance level) checks.
(clerance level checks do hurt.

The clearance itself may or may not be painless, depending on what sort of mischief, if any, one has been up to recently!
But filling out the damned paperwork most assuredly is not, having had to do it on more than one occasion, including just last month for probably the same or a similar requirement.

I'm sure it is. It's just a bureaucratic annoyance.
