Answers & Points Timeline, Game 4 Thursday Sept 4
Oh, you knew it wouldn't be long before we covered professional sports. And by professional sports I'm talking about basketball and football, of course.
Don't worry, you're getting some Wells on this one, plus no bogies! You know, cause this is the first week of school and all.
Reverse Doubles Triple Timeline - September 4
"Does Anybody Feel a Draft in Here?"
Who besides me likes drafts (the first couple rounds, anyway)? The Nuggets sure don't. I know what you're saying, "She expects me to figure out a Reverse Doubles Triple Timeline (it has a 4.7 degree of difficulty in international competition, btw. Ha!)? And do it with sports?"
Don't worry, it's not as difficult as it sounds. I'm giving you 9 years and two Athlete Wells and they're even sorted by sport! You just have to figure out who the #1 overall pick was for each sport. You can also grab some extra cheddar by giving the pro team that made the selection (1 pt) or their college (2 pts). But you don't get 3 points for being a smartass and saying both of them. In fact, if you put down both of them neither one will count (no hedging your bets). So just pick one! Don't say I didn't warn you.
The years lean toward the recent, as who could remember what now-defunct team picked some Joe Blow in a leather helmet in 1955, much less where they played their college ball? Some of the spacing is a bit close as well, because I tried to pick years in which both #1 picks would be fairly well known, even to someone who is a casual fan at best. Which is another reason I decided on no bogies for this one.
Scoring - 4 points for each athlete
2 points for each college team OR
1 point for each pro team
There are 9 years and a two point bonus for a total of 110 possible points.
Your format should look like this:
1986 Brad Daugherty - Cleveland Cavaliers
Bo Jackson - Auburn (War Eagle!)
You don't have to add the parenthetical, I just threw that in there for effect. In this case, you'd get 11 points.
And here I've got a big long intro again, so I'll put the game itself in the next post. These will get shorter as we go, since it won't be necessary to explain the format in such detail like the first time around.

Sorry this took so long, I was trying to make the Wells show up beside each other, but I couldn't get the formatting to work for that.
Have you read the intro? All of it? Because there's some important stuff in there regarding points today! Remember, this is the NBA and NFL drafts. So, while teams in other leagues and sports may have also drafted these players, the team points are only for NBA and NFL teams making the selection.

Steve Bartkowski
3. 1983 - Ralph Sampson
John Elway (Broncos)
4. 1987 - David Robinson (Spurs)
Vinny Testaverde (Buccaneers)
Ken Griffey, Jr. in MLB
5. 1993 - Chris Webber (Michigan, since it seems we get more points for naming the college team than pro team. He got traded on draft day anyway and I can't remember who originally took him anyway)
Drew Bledsoe (I can't remember which Wahshington college he played for, so I'll stay safe and say Patriots)
And A-Rod's year in MLB, the Mariners sure sucked a lot back then!
6. 1996 - Allen Iverson (76ers)
Keyshawn Johnson (J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets Jets!)
Kris Benson was the #1 pick in the MLB draft, so it was a good year for -son surnames
7. 2001 - Kwame Brown (Clippers)
Michael Vick (Va Tech)
8. 2004 - Dwight Howard (Bulls?)
Eli Manning (Giants, after threatening San Diego first)
9. 2007 - Greg Oden (Trailblazers, though he has yet to actually play for them)
JaMarcus Russell (Raiders)
Other than possibly flip-flopping Bartkowski and Campbell, I feel pretty good about all the others....
Bonus (2 pts): Spencer Haywood filed an anti-trust suit againt the NBA that went all the way to the Supreme Court in 1971. Their ruling overturned what NBA rule?
Who knows, but it this were a real sport like baseball, we could talk about Curt Flood and trhe reserve clause.....

"She expects me to figure out a Reverse Doubles Triple Timeline (it has a 4.7 degree of difficulty in international competition, btw. Ha!)? And do it with sports?" Do I see France's Marie-Reine Le Gougne and Brazil's Ana Maria da Silveira at the judges table?

Have you read the intro? All of it? Because there's some important stuff in there regarding points today! Remember, this is the NBA and NFL drafts. So, while teams in other leagues and sports may have also drafted these players, the team points are only for NBA and NFL teams making the selection.

Does Anybody Feel a Draft in Here?
As Mac and AJ pointed out, and I'm sure others realized, this was a lot easier if you went backwards and just tried to figure out how old or long ago the players were whose names you recognized and then tossed the other ones in there. I tried to make it so both names were pretty recognizable and the years weren't too close. Which is tougher than it sounds! I wanted to work in Bo Jackson for Kay and couldn't do it while adhering to those guidelines so I gave her a shoutout in the example.
Other notes: lb - if it were baseball, the bonus would have been about Olivia de Havilland. ha!
Nelly - once you saw the subject did you really think that there was any way that AI WASN'T going to be in there?
Clem - As you astutely pointed out, the max points meant there was still two points for the no college answer. Therefore, AJ and Nelly were also given the two points for theirs.
Tbone - Had Adrian Dantley been a #1 pick, he would have been in here. I love AD!
1. 1975
David Thompson - NC State/Atlanta Hawks
Steve Bartkowski - Cal-Berkeley/Atlanta Falcons
This is why I specified that it was the NBA/NFL drafts. The Nuggets were still an ABA team at that time.
2. 1978
Mychal Thompson - Minnesota/Portland Trailblazers
Earl Campbell - Texas/Houston Oilers
3. 1983
Ralph Sampson - UVA/Houston Rockets
John Elway - Stanford/Baltimore Colts
Elway stated in advance that he would not play for the Colts and would instead play baseball (the Yankees, I think). So the Colts did the draft/trade thing, as we'll see a few times later here.
4. 1987
David Robinson - USNA/San Antonio Spurs
Vinny!!!!1 Testaverde - The U (Miami)/Tampa Bay Buccaneers
I always loved David Robinson because he insisted on fulfilling his Navy obligation instead of trying to weasel out of it or get a deferment in order to go pro right away. Plus he's lefthanded!
5. 1993
Chris "Timeout" Webber - Michigan/Orlando Magic
Drew Bledsoe - Washington State/New England Patriots
And Marley gets one right in spite of himself! Or maybe you're just a closet C-Webb fan?
6. 1996
Allen Iverson - Georgetown/Philadelphia 76ers
Keyshawn Johnson - USC/NY Jets
7. 2001
Kwame Brown - High School/Washington Bullets (yeah, yeah, "Wizards")
Michael Vick - Virginia Tech/Atlanta Falcons
I really wanted to use Bruuuuuuuuuce to get in my Hokie fix, but the years didn't work out right.
8. 2004
Dwight Howard - High School/Orlando Magic
Eli Manning - Ole Miss (Mississippi)/San Diego Chargers
Another one of those draft and trade deals like Elway and Webber.
9. 2007
Greg Oden - THE Ohio State University/Portland Trailblazers
Jamarcus Russell - LSU/Oakland Raiders
Bonus (2 pts): Spencer Haywood filed an anti-trust suit againt the NBA that went all the way to the Supreme Court in 1971. Their ruling overturned what NBA rule?
The rule that a player could not turn pro until four years after high school. I couldn't give the points to whoever said that they were required to graduate college, they just had to wait out their college eligibility.

AJ gets the only perfect score of the day, with Nelly close behind. I think Kay could have really cleaned up today had she realized that she needed to put both players on each year, but she got a nice, respectable score as it was.
