The health Nazis have scored a big victory here in Eville schools this fall. They've managed to get all soft drinks removed from the high schools. You can still have them, of course, you just can't buy them on premises during school hours. The machines all have healthier alternatives now.

Like Snapple juice drink -- 200 calories and 57 g of sugar per 12 oz. container.

Or the Juicy Juice juice boxes -- 6.75 oz., 120 calories and 27 g of sugar. And that sugar is fructose, not glucose.

Our schools never had vending machines. And they didn't sell soda in the cafeteria. The worst they had was fruit juice...as a teenage girl I stayed away because of extra calories. But at least it was natural, so if you were going to have the sugar, at least it wasn't also loaded with chemicals.

I just still can't believe they're advocating high fructose corn syrup as a great choice. I am a firm believer of "everything in moderation" but don't act like it's good for me.

We never had sodas in school either, of course, that was ages ago!

I don't think my kids had access to them either. I don't recall it anyway.

You would have appreciated the DNC, Marley. There were taps saying "Fill it here" and dispensing fresh Denver water at every venue.

A couple of event allowed Coke to pass out free cold Coke-brand water along with a message saying "Bring it back! Average recycle life is three months."

Or something like that. I don't remember exactly.

One of the things that annoys me about the Can when we go see the Nuggets. They charge 3.75 for a bottle of water! And it's a fairly big bottle, but I'm a water fiend and go through at least two of them per game.

Seven and a half for water!! The rest of the family doesn't pay that much for their sodas.

The ballpark near me would be Sky Sox Stadium and I haven't been there since my Mom worked for one of the sponsors and had a box. The water was free there. Ha!

I was only at Coors once and that was years and years ago. My sister had free tickets from work and we took the kids. They were tots and Mark is getting his license tomorrow (!), so at least ten years, probably.

My Mom goes to a lot of Rockies games, I'll have to remember to ask her. Although I don't think she drinks water.

I don't buy it either, but I'd bet it's upwards of $5 a bottle at the Nude Busch.... but then again, the Cardinals love raping their fans' pocketbooks. I've been to most of the ballparks in the midwest, and none come close to the exhorbinant (sp???) prices they charge here.... and that included both Chicago parks which overall are even cheaper than Kansas City....
