A neighbor invited me to join her LinkedIn network of local technical writers.

Has anybody been involved in LinkedIn in a professional capacity? Is it valuable? Any tips?

I'm a member. I haven't found it useful.

I used to be obsessed with LinkedIn, before I was obsessed with Facebook!

It is much better for professional uses than anything else. I was able to add my co-workers, previous co-workers, managers, etc. I didn't get so into it to post recommendations or serious details of my resume but the general structure is there.

It depends what you are looking for - I have had several recruiters contact me there, to discuss opportunities. It's a good way to be out there, without having to post on monster and stuff like that. And even once the novelty fades, it's nice to have a lot of your professional contacts all in one place.

Yeah, I wondered about its value since I wasn't too familiar with it myself ...

Thanks.

Funny...I have been invited by two fellow church members to be part of their LinkedIn network. Since one is a landscape architect and the other is a psychiatrist I don't see why I would be invited - seems like Facebook or MySpace would be more appropriate.
