I had the TV on CBS from recording Big Brother so when I finished watching another taped show, it was still on CBS of course. I may have imagined it, but I think Katie Couric/CBS interrupted the Fred Thompson coverage to interview other people. I thought it was strange, and I thought Katie was a bit "rude" (for lack of a better term) in one of the interviews. I changed the channel.

This was my first time seeing Katie away from the Today Show. I don't plan on watching her again any time soon. I tend to shy away from that type of interviewing/reporting (ie. clearly not keeping neutral).



Edited because I made it sound like she actually got on stage and interrupted him. I meant coverage.

Did he beat Roddick or Djokovic?

I have to wonder that myself. He was my first choice for President. I even have a Fred Thompson for President t-shirt. But he did make a very strong case in favor of McCain's character. I wasn't really enthused by McCain as a candidate until his selection of Palin as his running mate, but Thompson made me really reconsider McCain himself.

I would rather drink battery acid than watch Katie Couric interview anyone of either political stripe - or no political stripe at all (Katie's work on colorectal cancer awareness is admirable, however).

MSNBC and CNN both showed Thompson's and Lieberman's speeches in their entirety.

Although, if you want to see every speaker of every convention (including some fun stuff from the Ron Paul shindig today), go to CSPAN.

No commentary for either side, no talking heads.

I really was waiting for Thompson to say, "Your average Democrat won't take a position with a poll, son."

Thank you. Thank you. She just makes me not want to buy shoes. Which is wrong, because she just exudes "Buy shoes" as opposed to "I have gravitas."

There's no doubt that Thompson knows how to deliver lines - he is an actor, after all.

I thought he talked too fast - and I am a fast talker.

He had some good points (or lines, whichever way you want to spin it) and talked way too fast for some of them to have the punch that they could have had.

I was thinking the same thing. Where the heck were you, Fred, when you were running your own campaign. What was the purpose of running if you couldn't talk like that most of the time? I thought he did great in one of the debates but it was too little too late at that point.

I enjoy listening to a good speech. But, now, after hearing Obama talk and say nothing so eloquently for all this time, it makes me appreciate hearing some actual facts during a speech.

You have to be willing to put up with a tremendous amount of manure to make a serious run for the President, and I don't blame politicians, especially retired politicians like Thompson or Gore, for not wanting to go through with it.

It's one thing to make public appearances when you want to in front of whatever friendly audience you want to and say whatever you want to and another to have to go through the daily grind of stump speeches, interviews, debates and whatever. Thompson's heart seemed to me never to be in it, and his would-be supporters felt that.

The best thing that came out of Thompson's presidential run was that it allowed Sam Waterston to be promoted to DA.
