McCain will be appearing with his new running mate in Dayton, OH, at noon Eastern today.

The press have reported that Romney is the only short-lister who is scheduled to be in Dayton today.

Bzzzztt..... wrong answer.

Looks to me like it's going to be the Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin.

I just heard that on CNN. A couple of people here did pick MILF Palin in the Veepstakes a long time ago.

My opinion on Palin as the running mate: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Does McCain want to lose this election? OK, I get that he wants to lure many of those bitter Hillary Clinton supporters by putting a woman on the ticket... but don't you think that McCain would pick a woman with more... experience and name recognition? Like Kay Bailey Hutchison, whose name was tossed around on the Bored quite a bit this week?

Palin has been governor for less than two years. Before that, she was the mayor of some town in the middle of Alaska that nobody has heard of. She has less experience than Obama! If it is her, then the entire Republican campaign that Obama is too young and too inexperienced will be automatically defused. Plus, she would never survive in the VP debate against Biden.

There has to be some other reason that Palin is being considered. Is it to sex up the Republican ticket? To win Alaska's oh-so-crucial 3 electoral votes? To keep Ted Stevens and Don Young in office? :? :? :?

One of our tour guides in Alaska told us that Vanity Fair or some such had some time ago named Sarah Palin the "Hottest Governor" in the US.

She is a former Miss Vasilla (that's a town north of Anchorage) and was first runner-up in the Miss Alaska pageant. She is a mother of 5, the youngest of which was born this past April.

She's also an ex-sportscaster, and has made her name, even before being governor as being big on governmental ethics, going after fellow Republicans who had conflicts of interest. In that respect, JMcC may have a soul mate.

If she's the pick, it's interesting that both Obama and McCain would not have picked a VP to carry a state (Obama would have carried Delaware, McCain will in any event carry Alaska), but to bring complementary qualities to the ticket.

CNN also says it won't be Pawlenty.

I really doubt the GOPPTB would allow a Lieberman nomination after he contributed to the DSCC.

So, no Pawlenty, no Rommey...Palin or Ridge?

"How do you pronounce the state's name, Hah-wah-ee or Hah-vah-ee?"
"Hah-vah-ee."
"Thank you."
"You're velcome."

Their population is under 5500. Not much competition.

Um...hate to burst your bubble but it won't be Lieberman. John McCain might like him personally but he is not willing to commit politcal suicide.

I think the media wants you all to think he's gonna pick Leiberman. Too bad you all are naive enough to believe what the media is telling you.

Isn't Palin under investigation??

Something about firing someone who fired her ex-brother in law?

Of course, I could be wrong. It just seems that everyone in the Alaska GOP is under investigation right now.

Not only that, she has baggage, because she's been accused of using her influence by trying to get her ex-BIL fired from his job as a police officer, firing the guy who refused to fire him.

Bad choice all around. And McCain has Alaska firmly in his grasp- this choice would do nothing for him.

Well, if all these rumors are true, it's either Ridge or Liebermann, neither of which will sit well with the GOP base.

I guess there's a small chance of some wild-card- Jindal?

Or is McCain content to try the "go to the middle" strategy?

Which I personally do not think will work.

They're doing an excellent job of mixing it up and will probably name someone who hasn't even been mentioned.

Given Ridge's efforts stumping GWB twice (Gore and Kerry won the state) and Rick Santorum (Bob Casey swamped him), I'm not sure he could deliver Pennsylvania.

And can you see the minute Joe Biden turns to him in the debate and asks Ridge if he think duct tape will solve the nation's problems?

As I said, I think Lieberman's $250,000 contribution to the DSCC last week effectively took him out of the running to be VP.

IIRC, Jindal took himself out of the running a couple weeks ago.

I'm sure that because of the wonderful reputation of leaders of this state, the man who will be nominated is Rick "Goodhair" Perry, the current governor of Texas.

I agree, they're probably doing it all for distraction.

I think he's gong to pick Hillary.

I said several months ago that McCain should pick Hillary after her infamous "Obama gave a speech in 2002" comment.

Well, the rumors are now that it's Palin, which strikes me as nothing more than "she's a woman" pick.

She has baggage, delivers nothing to McCain, and has less experience than Obama.

McCain must want to lose.
