Not going to happen. The have campaign appearances scheduled on a day Lieberman won't campaign.

Only two things would make next week's Republican Convention exciting:

1. Playing a drinking game during Rudy Giuliani's keynote speech. Take one drink each time Rudy says "September 11th" or "9/11". (Warning: May cause cirrhosis, alcohol poisoning, or death.)

2. Watching the convention floor become apoplectic (sp?) over the nomination of pro-choice, quasi-Democrat Lieberman for running mate.

Word on the (16th) Street was that McCain would announce his VP pick Friday.

Sadly, the fact that it would be a poor choice, doesn't tell me much about the likelyhood of McCain actually doing it.

You forgot about Bob Barr. He's a true conservative. I'd love to see him get a good hunk of the right-wing vote in a state like, say, Georgia or North Carolina.

I wouldn't put it past McCain to pick Lieberman, but if he does, I believe you can bet your house that Obama wins in November.

If your "informed" contacts are even close to being right, then it appears that somebody needs to sit down with McCain, look him in the eye, and ask, "Do you really want to be President?" Because if you do, stop toying with the idea of a running-mate who will cause a substantial portion of your base to vote third party or just stay home.

If I were the DNC I'd have an ad all ready asking why the person who came in #2 in the Republican primaries wasn't McCain's choice for a running mate (assuming he chooses someone other than Mitt, which is likely. After all, the Elephants ran an ad asking why Hilary wasn't tapped.

I think politics just sucks.

Mike Huckabee got more delegates than Romney.

Romney would be another stupid choice, btw.

I can't see Mitt getting the nod as VP. Cabinet position, yes, Treasury or Commerce. But too slick, too many position changes and still too offensive to many of the core GOPers to be a helpful VP choice.

I think it all depends what their strategy is. Are they trying to align fully with Republicans and hope that enough will vote to beat the Democrats?

Or are they hoping to schmooze enough of the Hillary-loving Democrats away with quasi-Democrat Lieberman? And hope there isn't too much collateral damage in the way of Republicans jumping ship because of it?

I don't know what they will do or why. I will wait and see. I loved Hillary and that was an easy sell. As a dedicated Lieberman supporter here in CT, it would be tough. I am a registered democrat who seriously dislikes Obama and what some call his "Paris Hilton approach" to politics. So if they're trying to sway me, Lieberman is the only thing that will come close.

The rumor is that the McCain camp is going to leak the running mate's name just before Obama's acceptance speech tonight. Just like the Obama camp, the McCain camp is gonna capitalize on the latest technology in their announcement. You can get the VP nomination by either Pony Express or telegraph.

Huck got more delegates (270 - 189), but Mitt got more votes (4,525,036 - 4,179,514).
