2 points per correct answer, 10 points if you get all four correct. Answer with a Spoiler tag in one post in this thread before noon EDT on Thursday, August 28.
No outside sources allowed. Just take your best guess.
A note from your QoD Meister/Thematic tour director: Almost out of time, so we're skipping another repeat venue today.
1. Seoul lies on the Han River, which flows into what sea (which is the northern part of the East China Sea)?
2. "Senator, I knew Jack Kennedy. I served with Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy." Who made this comment to Dan Quayle on October 5, 1988?
3. In the opening months of the Korean War, South Korean and American forces were driven back to the Pusan Perimeter, until General MacArthur launched an amphibious landing near what Korean city?
4. On the ABC network series Lost, two of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 are what South Korean couple, the daughter of a ruthless industrialist and the son of a poor fisherman? (I only need their first names.)

Had to answer these questions.
1. Yellow Sea
2. Lloyd Bentsen (at the Civic Auditorium in Omaha, Nebraska

)
3. Incheon
4. Jin-Soo and Sun-Hwa [Note: There ares no such thing as "first names" or "middle names" in Korean culture. Rather, there is a family name (usually one syllable), followed by a two syllable given name. For example, Yun Ok-Hee. Thus, the "first name" for each character really is Kwon, which also is an oddity, since women traditionally do not take their husband's last name, while the children do.]
P.S. I feel a bit like Wintergreen now.

1. Hmmm. Does the river flow east or west? Decisions, decisions. "part of the East China Sea". That probably rules out the Japan Sea. Yellow Sea, final answer.
2. Lloyd Bentsen
3. Inchon
4. Sun and Jin.

I was stationed in Korea in '87 and '88, leaving only a few weeks before the start of the games! The games were held in September because of the potential oppressive summer heat in Seoul, much like what was experienced in Beijing this summer. Summer in Korea could indeed be quite toasty.
1. Seoul lies on the Han River, which flows into what sea (which is the northern part of the East China Sea)?
Yellow Sea. Although when I was stationed in Korea it was sometimes referred to as the West Sea as it was West of Korea. The Koreans also tended to call the Sea of Japan the East Sea or East Sea of Korea. No love lost between Koreans and Japanese...

The Yellow Sea

Miss Binky and Mr. Django. (I'm guessing, because I've never seen Lost. I've never been Lost, either, except that time I followed a little boy home from school and his mom fed me a hot dog. That was cool!)
Thank you for remindering me to play, Mr. Marley. I almost really did skip over this one.

ANSWERS
1. Seoul lies on the Han River, which flows into what sea (which is the northern part of the East China Sea)?
The
Yellow Sea is on Korea's west coast, between it and China. The Sea of Japan is on Korea's east coast.
2. "Senator, I knew Jack Kennedy. I served with Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy." Who made this comment to Dan Quayle on October 5, 1988?
Senator Lloyd Bentsen said this during the vice presidential debate.
3. In the opening months of the Korean War, South Korean and American forces were driven back to the Pusan Perimeter, until General MacArthur launched an amphibious landing near what Korean city?
Incheon
4. On the ABC network series
Lost, two of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 are what South Korean couple, the daughter of a ruthless industrialist and the son of a poor fisherman? (I only need their first names.)
Sun-Hwa Kwon) and
Jin-Soo Kwon are the not-always happy couple. Particularly unhappy now, considering that Jin apparently didn't survive last season.
Sorry to trip up those of you who never watched the show or read our many threads about it here, but this month's QoD has been short of pop culture questions, and I couldn't think of better known Korean characters or actors than these two.
Frogman gets full humor points for his Phee Phi Pho Phum response.
POINTS
This game turned out a little tougher than average. Welcome to Appa23, who gets a perfect score in his first visit to this month's game. I hadn't even noticed that the vice presidential debate had been held in Omaha--talk about giving someone a wheelhouse stack!
Welcome, also, to BigDrawMan, who doesn't watch enough escapist TV.
