DNC security is thick

I got chewed out by a security guard yesterday!

It was way fun. A couple of Obama campaign staffers weren't allowed to bring their car to the venue where I was volunteering, so they lugged three big boxes up and asked if I would keep an eye on them. I naively said Sure, and they went away to get more boxes.

While they're gone, SecurityGuard comes up and asks me about the boxes, whereupon I catch hell for allowing this maneuver, and SG calls his supervisor, and they wait together for the staffers to return. When they do, THEY catch hell and have to present ID and credentials, when if they'd just been allowed to bring the boxes up to the door in their car, it would all have been over in 120 seconds.

OK, it wasn't fun for the staffers. I do think SG enjoyed throwing his weight around with a couple people dressed in expensive suits.

In other security news, downtown in the middle of the 16th Street Pedestrian Mall, a couple of people were holding up big banners and preaching loudly about homosexuality being a mortal sin. A couple of passersby engaged them, and the shouting match was on.

I don't know if it was staged or not, but the SWAT-dressed folks took it seriously. About a dozen SWAT-looking folks surrounded four or five people who were yelling at each other. By far, the most participants in the whole deal were the people who were surrounding the whole thing and taking phone pix or videos.

According to reports on NPR this morning there was no threat to Obama - the suspects were just meth-heads with guns. The one suspect who said that they were there to kill Obama was judged to be exaggerating.

Hey, Sprots, when you go to the airport, do you agree to carry packages in your luggage for a stranger, too? :P
