So what's up in "Balmer" on September 7th?

For some reason it appears that there is not a scheduled baseball game in Baltimore on Sunday, September 7th. Instead the O's will play a double header with the visiting A's on Saturday the 6th. Given that these poor overworked million dollar athletes rarely play a doubleheader anymore it seems odd they would schedule one in lieu of a perfectly good Sunday.

I suppose it happens but I can't recall the last time that a team did not have a scheduled game on a Sunday during the regular season.

And why don't teams play on holidays anymore? This Labor Day 10 teams are not scheduled to labor. I would think it would be a good day to schedule a game and draw a decent crowd. It was much the same on Memorial Day this year.

Perhaps it was not the case but it seemed like in the hazy distant past that teams did all play on holiday Mondays, especially Labor Day. Just as a random check on Labor Day 1988 all 28 teams (at the time) played a game although on Memorial Day in 1988 4 teams didn't have a game scheduled so perhaps I am disremembering...

Ravens have their season-opener at home that day against the Cincinnati Bengals. As Camden Yards is right next door and shares parking with the Ravens' stadium, it would be parking and traffic gridlock to have both hosting a game. At least I assume that's the reason.

Ravens subsequent Sunday home game is on the 21st, and the Orioles are in New York then.

Hmm, makes sense. Seems like poor planning on someones part to schedule them on the same day. I presumed that TPTB would try to avoid that sort of thing.
