Not my cat (a misspelling of Kodiak, according to HS who named him), but the company.
We got their picture CDs with the table camera developments, figuring that we'd download the best photos into an album of some sort. I fed a CD into my computer last night to get started. The stoopid thing starts up with a slideshow, which I cancel. I go to the disk itself in "My Computer", double click, and instead of opening up a folder, back comes the slideshow. I end up having to install their "EasyShare" program, which I hate, having deleted an earlier version years ago as a waste of time. I still couldn't figure out how to move the photos into another folder on my computer with it. I just want to store them so I can do some cropping or adjustments! That's why we paid for the CDs in the first place.
This morning, I explored some more, and discovered that if you right-click on the drive folder, you can open it up as a window and not have the programs for the slideshow or EasyShare installation start up. I'll have to do the downloads tonight.
The auto-start feature is annoying to me, and the forced installation (unless you can find the work-around, which was not obvious) extremely so. I HATE having to install software to do something that I already have other, more preferable programs to do. EasyShare gets deleted as soon as I turn on the computer tonight.

Nope, I get those "What do you want to do?" windows all the time with other media.MarleysGh0st wrote:Sounds like that's a problem with Windows on your computer defaulting to always running the autoruns file on the CD, instead of asking you want you want to do when you insert the CD. Not really Kodak's fault...
I quote from the envelope containing the CD: "This is an AutoPlay CD so the application starts immediately. ... If this is your first time running this version of KODAK Picture CD with KODAK EASYSHARE Software, follow the on screen instructions to install."
Users of Macs and other operating systems can choose their "favorite photo application" to view the photos. PC users aren't given that option or told how they may do so anywhere in the envelope instructions. GRRR!
