1. Rivière des Prairies? I thought Montreal was at the confluence of the St. Lawrence and Ottawa rivers. Hmmmm. "between". The island must be formed by a split in the river. St. Lawrence, final answer.

2. Queen Elizabeth II

3. Newfoundland

4. Gravy and cheese?

OK, I quoted something from Wikipedia that may be causing confusion, as indicated by AJ's comment. I've added what I hope is an acceptable clarification.

AJ has no worries with his answer, but if anyone else who's already answered wants to modify their answer to the first question, based on what I've added, I will permit it.

Saint Lawrence River

2. As the head of state of Canada, who opened the 1976 Summer Olympic games?
Bucky Beaver? Snidley Whiplash? Dudley Doright? Hmm, probably not. I will guess it is a wee bit of a trick question and that the answer is Queen Elizabeth II and not Trudeau who was head of government, not head of state.

NFC. Alberta?

ANSWERS

1. Montreal lies between the Rivière des Prairies (a channel of the Ottawa River) and what other river?

St. Lawrence. Sorry if that Rivière des Prairies business confused anyone. I think it's like the East River in NYC. ;)

2. As the head of state of Canada, who opened the 1976 Summer Olympic games?

Queen Elizabeth II is the head of state, which is different, in Canada, from being the head of government. Pierre Trudeau did hold the latter office, at the time.

3. What Canadian province was the last to join the Confederation, in 1949?

Newfoundland and Labrador, which is commonly just called Newfoundland, was a separate dominion until that year.

4. Poutine is a French Candian dish traditionally made from french fries topped with what two ingredients?
(There may be many variations, but I'm looking for the two most common items, here.)

Fresh cheese curds and brown gravy cover those fries. A French Canadian QoD Meister would probably take points off if you didn't mention that they had to be fresh curds, but just mentioning cheese was good enough for me.

And if you have seen or should see this question elsewhere, that's entirely coincidental! ;)
