Tropical Storm Fay

finally made it here. Tornado sirens have been going off for the past hour and the wind is howling like crazy. It has been raining since about ten last night, effectively moving a 3 year old's birthday party we had planned out by the pool inside the house.

Nothing like 17 people inside the house for 3 hours on a rainy day. We managed and I think I finally have the house back together. Poor Kitty is cowering under the sofa. I may join him if the wind doesn't die down soon.

Since it's just Kitty and me here tonight, it may be a good night to go to bed early. That wind is really scaring me.

It sounds like a day for a good book and a cup of hot chocolate!

Or that hot toddy Second Chance was telling me about last night. Still no lemon juice though.

We want a report on the Hot Toddy Orlando!

Come on, Kay. It's for science.

Hope you are doing okay! The storm just followed me around FL for a week, so I feel your pain.

Keep your head down, and report in when you can.

I obviously didn't blow away last night. It's not raining at the moment, although they claim it will start up again today. We'll see what the rest of the day brings.

Thanks for worrying about me. I'm fine.

Sunflower, I thought about your trip to Florida. I hope you had some good days while you were there.

We got to Palm Beach late Saturday afternoon. It was nice that day and all day Sunday. Luckily, we got some sun on Sunday and my bf got sunburn. Normally not a good thing, but at least he wouldn't have been able to go in the sun for a couple of days anyway.

Started raining Monday. We made the probably not so bright decision to drive down to Hollywood to go to the Hard Rock casino. On the way home, we hit Fay head on. Sideways rain, crazy wind gusts...it was amazing we made it back. Tuesday and Wednesday were crazy with rain and wind. The hotel (The Breakers) was really nice but not immune from leaks and damage. Tuesday night they left us hurricane readiness kits at our doors and advised us not to leave. But the food prices were so crazy we ventured out just for dinner. Same on Wednesday, we only left for dinner.

Thursday was nice-ish as we packed up (i.e., not constant rain, only showers from time to time). Too bad since we were heading to Orlando where the rain was currently located. We intentionally drove along the coast so that we could check out some of the damage in Melbourne and neighboring areas. They were definitely hit hard, the flooding was the big problem. Then we drove up to Orange City to see family, before finally making it to Orlando. We were pretty much wet all day. Friday we didn't want to be stuck in the room so we went out shopping and to Downtown Disney, and the weather alternated between cloudy and pouring. We managed to make it through the day and back to our hotel.

Yesterday we flew out and we were just glad it wasn't raining too bad so that our flight could get out. I couldn't believe that it rained almost the entire time. Between us we completely ruined 4 pair of shoes...but at least we came out safely!

Reminds me of the anniversary trip my parents took in 2005. They had a nice little Gulf Coast swing planned for the last week of August. My Mom had never seen the "ocean" before....

They left on the 27th.

Of course, Katrina hit New Orleans on the 29th.

They wisely just spent the week in Tunica, MS....

This storm will not go away. Tornado sirens are going off again this morning!
Looks like it will hang on again all day today and reports are it could be Thursday before it's really completely out of our area.

We've been in drought conditions and I'll think they'll be gone by the end of the week. We need the rain but can do without the wind. It's very dark outside right now and kind of eerie.

My granddaughter used to work at Chilli's there until she got too pregnant. Her husband, Sunshine, still is a waiter there.

The girls said it was right next to their condo. No damage to them though.

Glad they're OK. We had sirens going off at 3AM. I'll be glad when this is over. I actually see the sun at the moment. Wonder how long that will last?

Hope it all blows over soon, Kay. Take care.

Roughly until sunset I would guess! I make that to be about 1911 give or take this evening for those of you in UCLA...

People here in Denver were reporting it with open astonishment. GASP!

Glad no one was injured.
