How am I doing - quiz-wise, that is

At this point I'm about 2 weeks into exploring the mystical land of Sploofus Quiz Writing - with 9 published to date and 2 in the queue waiting for the Sploofus PTB to give them their blessings.

At this point I'm going to take a short hiatus - how short I don't know yet, to take stock and gather some feedback on how to make the quizzes better.

I've been trying to follow a set of self-imposed ground rules when creating a quiz - this I've applied to all of the quizzes with the exception of my Millionaire Taping Countdown quiz - which only became a quiz after the fact. My rules are as follows:

- I need to write the quiz prior to doing any outside research - that is, if I was presented with one of my quizzes - cold - I should be able to get 100%. So I don't research a subject and then write the quiz, what I do is I think of a topic, come up with my questions and then fact/spell check them.
- The quiz should be at the level that someone who is interested or feels they know a lot about a subject, should still find it relatively challenging. If they have the ability to get 100% - it should feel like they earned it.
- It should not have any WWOQ - of course one person's WWOQ is a quiz authors - duh - who doesn't know that.
- It should have enough interesting items and be informative enough so that people who don't consider themselves expert in that subject area still enjoy taking it and feel that they come away from it with a bit more interesting information then when they started.
- It should be fun - not too long to take, not too long to read each question. I personally don't like the quizzes that have full paragraphs for questions, but it shouldn't be so short that it doesn't convey some new information to someone not familiar with the question, either.
- Try to cover a wide range of subjects.

I've enjoyed writing them and I hope you have enjoyed taking them as well. How well I've achieved my goals, I'll let you decide. Given the number of active posters on the bored, though, I would like to see an increase in the number of people taking my quizzes.

There are a lot more potential quizzes bouncing around in my brain - so I would like to improve my quiz writing skills before unleashing them. Any and all feedback will be appreciated, especially ways to improve my questions, my distracters or the types of questions I use for a given subject.

Take the poll, but remember written feedback is much more appreciated - and if you answer 'Other' - please let me know what the change should be via adding the comment to the thread or a PM.

Thanks,

---Jay

Jay, I should not have voted. I haven't taken any of your quizzes.

Sorry about that.

Frogman,

I am actually not smart enough to know how to vote in a poll but I sure did enjoy your Capra quiz. Some of it was obscure but I'm glad to have gained that knowledge. Mel
