... for a week or so. I'm off to Mobile in the morning for the cruise.

It's going to be strange being on a ship during the bulk of the Democratic convention. Real world news never seems to filter through very much to those on a cruise ship. They will watch a football game if it's on TV but actual news has little impact.

Our first cruise was during Hurricane Katrina, and while we were sailing down the east coast of Florida in perfect weather instead of the Gulf (where we would have had a royal mess trying to get us and our car out of town). My wife and I kept watching the horrible mess on TV on CNN. It shook us up a good deal, but no one else on the trip even seemed to be aware of it.

The cruise ship does carry network TV channels, and the last couple of cruises, they have been using a feed from the Denver area with Denver local stations. That might be interesting to watch to see the local human interest stories that the Denver stations will be covering that the cable news networks won't.

See y'all in a few days.

DON'T WATCH THE TVS.

The point is to escape that shit.
If you fail to pilot your own ship, don't be surprised at what inappropriate port you find yourself docked. - Tom Robbins

Well, that was a scary subject line!

Have a great cruise and don't do anything to make that subject line turn out to be portentious!

Have a good trip! Ignore the news from any source. Cruises are intended as a means to get away from all that. Just eat, drink and make merry. Whoever Merry is.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Will Fay be meeting you in Mobile?
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I wish all these people would just stop using my name to identify all these lunatics. I should have Horace tan their hides.

Is she talking about my good friend Horace Schitt? I hear he's gonna be speaking at both party conventions....

Will I be waiting in vain for somebody to actually look up to find out what's the deal with May 4th?

As far as I know, Horace Schitt has no familial connection to Horace Mann, but I'm pretty sure he's related to BobJuch.

It's Horace Mann's birthday, of course! He just turned 212, but he doesn't look a day over 190....

Sorry for the delay, I had to stand for the anthem. (Yes, even at home I stand for the anthem.)

You figured that out far too quickly! Or am I not the only person in the world who knows Horace Mann's birthdate off the top of my head? Ha!

I went to Horace Mann Junior High School and every May 4th they'd have a big cake and an all school birthday party in the courtyard.

I don't see what the problem is with the signature, perhaps the coffee will help.
