Place yer 11th hour bets on Obama's VP here!

I'm betting on Biden, with Evan Bayh as runner up.
The Naughty Norwegian met the head dude for NBC news on a flight recently. Really candid guy, he said. Head dude came up to the cockpit before they took off out of Beijing last week to talk shop, and asked them all who they thought would be the running mates on both sides.
News dude thinks it will be Hillary for Obama. I don't remember who he thought would be running with McCain.

I will go safe with Sibelius and Romney.

Obama picks Kaine... he needs someone he looks good next to, which narrows the field considerably. Plus Kaine has nothing to lose.
McCain picks Tim Pawlenty, who helps in Minnesota and who doesn't have the negatives with one faction or another of the Republican base that a lot of his other choices might.

I devoutly hope he doesn't pick either one of these two. Neither of them is particularly scintillating, and picking Bayh almost guarantees that the Democrats willl lose a seat in the Senate (Bayh basically got elected because he was the son of Birch Bayh).

Joe Biden has been my guess for a long time.
What Sen. O should be doing is looking at his slippage in the polls, and if his internal ones are saying the same as the public ones, holding his nose and calling Hillary. I think the poll problems are real, in other words.
As for McCain, he has the larger problem. The one thing he should not do and probably wont do is nominate Mitt Romney.
I guess in favor of someone I have never heard of, but smart.

Horace is still available. A lot can be said for having a running mate who has been dead almost 150 years. I guarantee he won't say anything embarrassing.

Nancy can use the work, but I always took Obama for more of a Grieg man.

You really think that McCain would risk alienating the social conservatives by picking him?
I seriously believe that McCain floated that "pro-choice running mate" trial balloon just to make the Mormon look palatable.
Besides, I want McCain to pick Romney because 1) he's a bigger flip-flopper than McCain, 2) I want to know how many houses
he owns, and 3) I get to recycle my favorite picture: Willard Mitt Romney, the fudgepacker.

Leszek Pawlowicz or Thomas Eagleton

If my life depended on guessing correctly, I'd say Biden. If I was betting money, though, I'd take the odds and stick with Hagel or Bloomberg. (I'd split my money between them.)
I'm sticking with Romney.

That would be a hoot! And O.K. with me. But I wouldn't bet on it.
McCain will go with a white guy also. Maybe.

CousinHoward's going with Sarah Palin.
That would sure fit my bill of somebody I never heard of.
Well, I have now.
You know what I mean.

I think he'd pick Larry Craig then.

Nixon picked Agnew because it guaranteed that no one could ever say (if he won) that he won because of his VP's coattails, which people probably would have said if Nixon had picked Rockefeller or Mitt's dad or some other prominent Republican. But I can't think that Obama would have that sort of mindset, and so would be more likely to pick someone who will at least not hurt him, if not help him (I don't think that VP choices ever really help the national ticket, the best that can be said for them is that they do not hurt: did ANYone vote for Bush II because Cheney was his VP? did ANYone vote for Bush I because QUAYLE was his VP?)
Kaine would hurt Obama because he feeds directly into Obama's biggest weakness-- his lack of experience and grounding at any serious level. Obama has absolutely no executive experience at all, and just a few years of legislative experience-- he was a member of the Illinois legislature for a few years, in which he seems not have accomplished anything of note, and he has 3 1/2 years of service in the US Senate, during most of which time he has been running for President and has not actually done anything other than win (we assume) the Democratic nomination. Tim Kaine perhaps adds a little bit of 'executive' experience-- he has been a pretty good governor of Virginia (although he cannot control the legislature-- he has not been able to get a budget passed), and he was a pretty good member of the Richmond City Council (during his tenure on the City Council, at least one member of the Council went to jail every other year, and others were booted off for scandalous activities, but there was never a hint of anything really improper about him), but that is it-- 2 1/2 years as governor of a mid-sized state, and about 8 years on the City Council of a fairly small city (he was 'mayor' of Richmond for a couple years, but at that time it was not an elective or 'executive' post, it was really just a title for the guy picked as head of the City Council). So Kaine adds virtually nothing, and in fact probably makes Obama look even weaker.
Hilary would probably help Obama with her groupies (the people like SSS) who, deep down, really only dislike Obama because he knocked off their Chosen One; and she probably would not hurt his candidacy, because for the most part the people who would refuse to support a ticket with her on it would have refused to support a ticket with Obama on it, so it's a wash there. But she's not likely to accept the offer even if it is made: she had to wait 8 years while Bill was President, then another 8 years while she actually held her first elective office, and I doubt that she would want to wait yet
another 8 years (I 'spect that in her mind, if she runs with Obama, he will win two terms), so that's out.
I would go with Joe Biden. He doesn't bring any really bad baggage that Obama would not already have with most of his potential picks, but instead he fills in the gaps (other than the lack of executive experience) in Obama's resume, and he can roughen up Obama's overly smooth edges.

Please, please, please tell me that that is a legit picture and not one that was photoshopped - please - it is just too wonderful for words.

It is being floated that Obama will select congressman Chet Edwards from Texas. Probably just another red herring.
I will bet against all odds that he will select Hillary.
McCain will not choose Willard but will go with Tom Tancredo.

I don't have Photoshop, so I can guarantee this photo is 100% undoctored.
