I first assumed it was Affirmed-Alydar but it has to be the 1998 finish with Real Quiet missing out on the Crown by a nose.
Recently I've made it a point to be at the Belmont to see the 'next' Triple Crown in person but that was one that I missed, as a cousin of mine was married that morning in CT. Had outside hopes of making it afterwards, but the ceremony dragged on and on, then the reception, and also I had the responsibility of driving my dad and sister home.
Oh, and that marriage lasted barely a year or so.

June 6, 1998 is correct. In the final strides of the race, Real Quiet and winner Victory Gallop were side-by-side but off stride from each other, much like Phelps and Cavic in the 100m fly. Fortunately, for Phelps he hit the finish line in stride as did Victory Gallop.
