Actor and writer.

He played Woodcock, the loyal employee of the Union Pacific Railroad who allows himself to be blown up twice by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, in the film of that name.

And he had hundreds of credits as a character actor in other movies and TV.

But, he was also a successful writer. He collaborated with Stephen Sondheim on two musicals, Company and Merrily We Roll Along, writing the book accompanying Sondheim's music and lyrics.

He was 75.

I know exactly who George Furth is, thanks to you great summary of his career - sad to hear that he has passed away - I always have a special place in my heart for character actors like George and it was interesting to see that he wrote as well - something I had no idea about . 75 is no longer that old anymore.

I will always remember him as Van Johnson in Blazing Saddles.
