Ha, I was actually serious (about the first part). My grandmother's family was from the part of Russia next to Poland, but I don't know what actual country. I guess it's a 1 in 3 shot.

One in four. That could be Kaliningrad too. Maybe even Belarus.

I was referring to your signature.

I was talking about Lithuania, Belarus or Ukraine, which are considered the most likely suspects. I didn't even know about Kaliningrad. I guess I'm not a very good Russian. Ha!

Too funny, my dad's family is also from "some small Russian country"...people always think I'm crazy when I don't know which one. I've unofficially adopted Belarus for no real reason...but when really grilled, that's the one I go with.

I think it's because for so long it was just the big ol' USSR so everything was referred to as "Russia". I've often said that today's kids have it a lot rougher in geography, there's way more countries to keep track of and learn capitals!

As much as I'd love to be Lithuanian (they're crazy!), I lean towards Belarus as the last name ended in 'ov' rather than 'ius'.

It's all over that thread, you just need to look for it.
