Only his mother would recognize him, but Adventure Boy's photo was in the local newspaper this week. (His "local," not mine.)
Two photos alternate on the web site. AB is the fire fighter in the yellow helmet.

Of course I recognize him! He looks just like you! When you're wearing a big beige coat and a yellow helmet, that is.
Seriously, I think that's way groovy that he's a firefighter now, since I remember back when you weren't sure that he was going to land on anything and then that avenue was chosen as a goal. (If I'm remembering correctly, I could have been stoned at the time).

That story was a gripping bit of journalism.
Cute firefighter sons make the day worthwhile.

Yep. Sure, the story had only one sentence, but there were two pictures, so that's worth another 2,000 words right there.

Exactly! I tried on his big beige coat and yellow helment -- along with the big beige pants and big brown boots and heavy equipment belt and heavier breathing equipment -- for about two minutes, when I was standing still and feeling myself grow shorter.

You are remembering exactly correctly. There was a time when I despaired. In retropect, however, I now believe that most the things he did while he was meandering through life have turned out to make him a more interesting person. Mind you, I say that with a sense of great relief, and I got some magnificent Christmas tree ornaments out of the glass-blowing days.

Yeah, but I want some resolution to the story!

That reminds me of the mother who recognized her son in the photo of the Marines raising the flag on Iwo Jima, even though the only part of him visibile was his rear end!
