Audition Questions

I mailed back the ticket request form I got yesterday. My dad asked, do they mail you the tickets? I assume they either do that or have a list of people ready. Also, what's the best time to get to the studio to make sure we get in? 7 AM? Earlier?

Thanks,
James

A ticket request form? Why didn't you request tickets through the website?

If you're going to a 12:30 taping, you don't need to get there before 11:00.

Yes, they'll mail your tickets. The tickets will tell you what time to arrive; for the first taping session, there's an earlier arrival time if you're taking the audition test than if your not, but that's more like 10 or 10:30, not 7!

The staff will often let walk-ups get in line without a ticket (particularly if they know they don't have a full crowd registered for the day) which is why the ticket will have fine print about it not guaranteeing your entrance, but it's not as bad as one of the cattle call auditions on the road.

I should clarify. I requested tickets through the website, and then a pink thing came in the mail where they wanted to "confirm my reservation" lol, please don't shoot the messenger. lol

Are you talking about the three-part postcard, bondguy? One of those parts is your ticket! The second part has some general instructions for the audience and the third part is a confirmation card that they ask you to mail back.

If you don't mail it back, they may call your phone number to confirm if you're coming. When they're short of audience members, the staff sometimes have to go to Times Square to try to wrangle up some bodies, so it's a big deal to them.

Yep, that's your ticket!

We don't shoot messengers around here, although we may give them a severe tongue-lashing. :P

Now it all makes sense - one of the parts, believe it or not, said "Ticket"! hahaha....So just to be clear, I should show up at 10:15 and not have a problem? (The audition time listed)

Yes. You're not doing well with the first part of the test.

That's correct.

And when you show up, expect to be wasting some time waiting in line. The slowest part of the whole process is getting people into the building through security, a handful at a time. While you're waiting some of the staff should be handing out the application form for you to fill out. You'll hold on to that until you pass the written test and advance to the interview.

If you arrive early, there's a Starbucks at the corner of 67th St. and Columbus Ave, which is a traditional spot for auditioners to pass some time. :)

If it's still like it was last year, they'll give you a number when you get there. So you can get your number then run down to Starbuck's if you don't want to wait.

Keep in mind, the APs that are out there with you will be with you throughout the day including bringing you down for testing. What I did (and it obviously worked to some extent) was treated the whole day as an audition. Chat people up in line, chat up the APs...they'll remember you later and in line you have a whole lot more time to impress them than after you take the test!!!

If you hang out here long enough, you'll learn BobJuch is irritating, but harmless.

I'm sure he was being sarcastic but I will very non-sarcastically say read all the directions and questions carefully on the test!

Yes, it's easy to mess up the Scantron card.

Especially if you're excited and think you know what you're doing but miss some critical instruction. Like you missed the ticket postcard. Just take a deep breath...and take your time and read carefully.

The good news is, I'm used to scantron tests. I took one as recently as last semester.

Dodger Steve, a pleasure...Actually, my first name is James so when I was trying to think of something easy to remember ages ago for a password, it stuck. I have not even watched one Bond movie. That's pathetic. Then again, I only like comedies. There's a pretty neat clip on youtube of a "Lost Bond Movie Trailer" with Jerry Lewis playing 007.

So, I had tickets for the 2nd day of taping and got there around 10:20 am for the 11:30 arrival time. They had already filled up and we were put in the standby line with about 8 people or so in front of us. They put us on the VIP for the second taping set and we squeezed in to the first as one of the few on the standby line to get in for the first taping sesson, but my wife couldn't take the morning test and needed to take the test after the 2nd taping (around 6:30 pm) so that was after a very long day - not the best form to be in when testing.

Remember it is still summer, so a lot of folks are on vacation, also they are supposedly shutting down production when Meredith is in China for the Olympics so that means less tapings during the summer months - it might be more crowded then in past seasons as a result. If you really are going to take the test and would prefer to take the test in the morning, I would get there around 9:15 to 9:30 to insure your spot - I do think they will give you your entry ticket so you can grab a bite or some liquid refreshment without having to wait in line the whole time.

Of course it may be that now that they are going into there 4th week of taping, they crowds may have lessen. I don't think 7:00 am is necessary, but 10:30 may be too late to take the morning test - if it was me I would go at 9:15.

And of course, best of luck on the test and the interviews!

---Jay (Wow, the number of days until my episode airs is an Einstein Prime - I hope you're primed for the test!)

No, I've been to my share of tapings and that's not necessary. Some people will be in line a little early, but that's overkill.

And they're already on their Olympic taping hiatus. The third week of taping isn't scheduled to resume until August 26 & 29.
