Stupid BAM Question needs clarification

And no, it's not about the writers. I feel embarrassed to ask.

During today's first episode in the double-run markets (the non-movie week one) did I correctly hear Meredith say that the woman in the hot seat took an audition and she was on the show one day later? She may have said a few weeks (like I thought originally), but I didn't have the volume all the way up.

Can anyone clarify this?

The shows are in repeats right now, so I don't think many of us are watching today. Can you remember the name of one of the contestants or one of the questions so we can search our transcript archive?

It was the one where the question was, basically, Barack Obama's book was named ? The correct answer was "The Audacity of Hope"

Kate Rhindress
New Hyde Park, NY
Occupation not mentioned

Meredith says the audience knows that she comes out and tells the audience that they can take the test and get the call. Kate got the call yesterday at 6PM. Kate was struggling to balance the cell phone, write down the information, and when it was over and she got on the subway she was flustered.

I saw today's show, which was a rerun.

Yes, she said that she got the call at 6 p.m. the night before she appeared in the hot seat. Similar short-notice calls have been made to a number of people in the NYC greater metropolitan area. That's the best reason for all Happy Card holders to get their PAFs lined up, at least tentatively, way -- that's w-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-y -- in advance.

Just in case.

OK, that was contestant Kate Rhindress , on the episode that was first broadcast on 10/17/07.

According to our transcript:
Meredith says the audience knows that she comes out and tells the audience that they can take the test and get the call. Kate got the call yesterday at 6PM. Kate was struggling to balance the cell phone, write down the information, and when it was over and she got on the subway she was flustered.
I don't think they said when she auditioned. We do know that they'll occassionally call a contestant in the NYC area ("Where Else") with only a few hours notice. This happens when the previous day's group doesn't last as long as they expect and TPTB begin to fear that they'll run out of contestants for the next day. So, they call one in at the last minute.

We have at least one BB (Moonie) who got one of those. It wasn't good for his concentration.

I did DVR it today. Even though I have my episode saved, I want to catch it again in reruns so I've been DVR-ing for the last couple of weeks after I saw someone in a repeat who was there on my tape date.

So I can watch it tonight and see if anything was missed in the transcript about when she auditioned.

I just watched it. She was on her way home from work when she got a call telling her to be there in the morning. So I take that to mean she had auditioned at a previous time, otherwise she probably wouldn't have been at work.

Funny you should mention Barack's book... I'm back from my trip and unfortunately no happy or sad card for me because I failed the test. I only got 3 questions wrong. There were 40 people in my group and 5 passed. Only 5! Anyway, one of the stupid questions I got wrong was that book. Wish this thread was a day early - LOL!

Oh, Julie, darn! Is there any chance you might be able to go back and try again in a couple of weeks (or whenever taping dates resume after the Olympics)?

:( Julie. Only 3 missed!? Goodness, they run a tight ship! I also agree with what Silver asked about whether you would be willing/able to try out again.

I'm sorry, Julie. That passing percentage--5 passers out of 40--sounds pretty typical, but are you certain that you only had 3 wrong? It can be difficult even remembering all the questions after that quick test.

But failing the written test is a bummer, particularly when you were given a special, personalized invitation to come down and try. :(

Ouch, been there done that, I still haven't figured out how I flunked the Charlotte test last year.

Oh, Julie! That sucks... 5 people out of 40....that's 8 percent if my math is right.

I only had 6 questions that I couldn't answer without hestitation. I googled them afterward and 3 I managed to get right. It's possible there was one on there I was dead certain was right that was actually wrong I suppose. But I am positive I didn't miss any more than 4 - if that were the case. I am bummed because I had "what is a sirocco?" and I was leaning toward wind and then the guy shouted "pencils down" and I just filled in anything (but not wind, argh!)

I might try again but I don't know because my biggest hook is now gone. There were people there whose names I had never heard of before - trying to pass for famous

Did I mention I never passed algebra! (Yet...still in college) Thanks Marley. I did the old 40 divided by 8 is 5 thing.

Why would you divide 40 by 8...when the only two numbers you were given were 40 and 5??? I hope there's no math on the test!

I'm sure you have an extra "hook" in you somewhere? For the record, these meanies on the bored said my name "wasn't famous enough". So how famous is famous? What are some of the other unheard of names that were there at M* that you never heard of ? Christopher Plummer? Dick Van Dyke? Blake Edwards? Captain Von Trapp? LOL! Just teasing...you sound like a young Mary Poppins. :P

You be the Judge. Tell me I am not a "famous name"!
