Half of piano duo: Ferrante and Teicher
83 years old.
I very much enjoyed their music.

My mom and I attended one of their concerts when I was around 10 years old. Kept me inspired to continue piano lessons for a couple more years.
I loved their stuff.

Someone was waxing ecstatically about a concert she'd seen lately, saying that the pianist was "better than Liberace! Better than Ferrante and Teicher!!"
I remarked that it probably wouldn't be a problem to beat out three dead guys, which promptly got me stomped flat for my ignorance, especially since alive or dead wasn't the issue, even though Ferrante and Teicher were both alive (this happened Saturday) since she'd seen all four live in concert, and Van Cliburn too, but somehow she managed to avoid saying that the still-alive-and-performing guy was better than Cliburn, probably suspecting that someone present and musicially knowledgeable might take exception (someone not myself, I hope it goes without saying).
I am sorry for the loss -- I know that he was a great musician and with Ferrante had a wonderful worldwide appeal.

We all had a soft spot for Ferrante and Teicher growing up because TLAF and her sisters were all Ferrantes.
But we are no relation.
It's weird because we were talking about Ferrante and Teicher at work on Monday.
We started talking about Mad Men, as we do every Monday and someone mentioned the scene with Don in the Chinese restaurant.
One of the account reps said it reminded her a little of the place Shirley MacLaine and Fred MacMurray went in The Apartment (which woulnd't surprise me because Matthew Weiner, the creator of Mad Men, said that The Apartment was an influence on the show).
And I said how much I loved the theme from The Apartment. One of my favorite pieces of movie music.
