WWTBAM Bored

When I got home last night about 9:30, there were two furry cat-sized critters on the front porch just getting ready to decamp. Clayton was at the edge of the porch with his back up and fuzzed up to about twice his normal size. I walked up, thinking they were the next door cats, who often come over for a snack at Clayton's expense (OK, it doesn't cost Clayton anything, make that at my expense).

One of them scampered over to the nearest tree as soon as I shut the car door, the other was sidling off the porch away from Clayton and toward me. I got within about three feet of him, and he did not run off until I waved my arms and yelled "Shoo!!"

Every crumb of cat food was gone, and Clayton was pitching a PLOM fit (Poor Little Old Me), so I fed him inside. I am very pleased that he did not try to engage the raccoons, I like his face arranged the way it is.

MissYetiGirl was nowhere to be seen, sometimes I wonder if she is the most scaredy-cat on the planet or the smartest.

They didn't get inside!

True fact!

I house-sitted (sat?), where the owners left the window open so the cats could get in and out. Raccoon kits invaded, knocked over all the boxes in the storeroom, ate every scrap of food they could find and tried to break into the sealed tubbie with the kibbles bag, drank all the water, and scared HeCAT-E onto the top of the refrigerator.

They were BAD KITS.

That made me chuckle. Interlopers these days -- so nervy!

This year besides birds and squirrels (!), we've had raccoons, possums, and skunks helping themselves to the catfood. The earlier i bring it inside, the earlier they start skulking. Now they've wised up and starting cleaning out the bowls after they've been set out in the morning! Last month the coons came by around 10am for brunch. Couldn't believe my eyes.
Coyotes and a Mountain Lion have been spotted in our neighborhood. Expecting the ghost of Marlin Perkins any time now...

IDLEDALE, Colo. - A couple was jolted from their sleep recently when they realized that a mountain lion had entered their home in the middle of the night.

Jacquie and Mack Anderson intentionally left one of their home's doors open, so that cooler air would ventilate the house. At about 4:30 a.m., Jacquie woke up and noticed that an animal was in their bedroom.

"She jumped out of bed... and she said, 'Mack, there's an animal in here. It's a mountain lion!'" Mack recalls.

The woman's screams might have scared the cougar, because the animal then grabbed one of the couple's dogs and left the house.

Wildlife officials eventually tracked down the mountain lion and killed it. They said the big cat apparently was not frightened of humans, which made it a very dangerous animal.

Unfortunately, the dog was killed by the mountain lion.

Thanks, Melly, me too. My young vet tech friend reports dreadful injuries from dog-raccoon encounters. My little herder dog would be only too happy to take them on to protect her family, and I know who would win that battle.
