The life expectancy of a squirrel

#1 Post by AnnieCamaro » Wed Jul 30, 2008 5:57 pm

I looked it up.

The average length of a squirrel's life is only about one year, because of the high rate of accidents, injuries, predatory enemies, and jaywalking. The maximum life expectancy for a non-evil squirrel who doesn't throw apples at dogs or otherwise go out of his way to accumulate bad karma is approximately 10 years.

I love the internet.

I agree with you, Miss Kay, especially the part about "as they come." As you may know, I've had to speak to him in the past about that apple thing.

10 years MAX!?!?!? Are you sure you looked that up right? With all the exercise and nutrition I get, I better damn well live as long as George Burns....

Time to get my throwing exercises in. My cousin in Colorado just shipped me a whole box of beautiful pine cones....
Squirrels are the architects of forests, the planters of trees, nature's own acrobats and show a zest for life that can inspire us. Every day should be National Squirrel Appreciation Day!

Many of these (squirrel) migrations were probably caused by food shortages as well as habitat overcrowding. We solved that for them. We not only reduced their habitat, we reduced the whole species by about 90%. The least we can do now is share a little birdseed with them.

Yeah, but have they lived in the same places as he has?
