Our state Seniors golf tournament starts tomorrow at the local muni golf course. I will attempt qualifing for the championship flight. Last year I did qualify but got slaughtered in the first match. 15 qualifiers with last years champ seeded #1. Last years champ (from Bismarck) is the guy that beat me in the finals of our Mid-Amateur tournament back in 1984. Kept me from winning two straight state titles. I want a rematch.
Weather is looking good with temps to be in the 80's and the wind to be 10-15mph.

On to the first match this morning. I shot 77 and that was good for the #7 seed. I putted like Sergio. Hit 13 greens in regulation and made only 1 birdee--- from 30 feet. 3 putted 3 times and missed 5 birdees inside of ten feet. Really pleased with the way I hit the ball from tee to green.
I have great confidence about my match, I should beat this guy 8 out of 10 times.

On to the quarter finals tomorrow morning and semis in the afternoon if I win in the morning. I have to play like I did today to win in the morning.
Today's match wrapup:
I birdeed holes 2,4,6 and 8 (stiffed one to one foot on a par three 189yds and into the wind) made bogey on 5 so I shot a 3 under 33. I had my opponent down 3.
He birdeed 10 and 11. We tied 12 with pars, both bogeyed 13 and 14. I birdeed 15 to get back to 2 up. Both found trouble on 16 but halved the hole. I closed him out 3 & 2 with a par on 17. Best round of golf I have played for quite some time. Hit the ball really solid.
My opponent tomorrow morning is an excellent golfer I will need to stay around par to have any chance. I will for sure stay close or flat out beat him if I hit it like I did today.

I don't believe that I have ever actually had something to contribute to a golf message. But I think I do!
Yesterday's leader in the Senior US Open (or is it US Senior Open?):
A bear.
And it wasn't Jack Nicklaus. Ha!
They let him play through.

I did not lose the match this morning only because we did not play this morning. It was raining along with some hail(so much that the greens looked like they had snow on them) so they delayed the tee times for 5 hours and we did a shotgun start.
I was slaughtered in my match today. He birdees #1 and I bogey holes 2,3,4 and 5. He bogeyed 5 with me. He then birdeed 7 and 9 (tap ins) so I was 6 down at the turn after shooting a 40. I birdee #10 but he birdees #11 and when I bogey 12 I am toast losing 7 & 6. A real spanking so to speak. Oh well, next year.
