That was exciting. I'm in downtown LA and it shook for about 20 seconds. Enough for me to type. We still have power. Not sure where it was centered.

No car alarms. CNN is talking about it now.

First report: 5.6 on the Richter Scale. I don't know about 20 seconds, but here in the Hollywood Hills (straddling Hollywood and Studio City) I did scamper for lower ground! I guess that's still the East Coast in me.

Go stand in a doorway. Isn't that what you're supposed to be doing?

Yes....
During my first 'big' earthquake, I ran outdoors. I proceeded to get into trouble from kindergarten aged Samantha who had just learned one does NOT run outside during an earthquake!

Glad that you are ok.

LOL. In fact my neighbor who is from Texas ran outside. In fact I just heard her get in her truck and leave.
This is my fourth big quake (I've lived here my entire life). The other three were all before 7am.....Whittier, Sylmar and Northridge. The latter two featured exploding transformers and power loss. The shaking was bad but not like the ones in the San Fernando Valley.

Felt it here pretty strong in West LA. It was a long one, building up after about 8 seconds.
I wonder if I should attend my meeting in the hospital basement this afternoon.

Just make sure you take your cell phone with you in case Million Dollar Password calls.

I lived in the flats of Studio City during the Northridge earthquake.
That was an earthquake! During the rolling, I remember praying in bed while expecting the Pacific to come crashing through the front window! Hoo boy...

Now that is making sure you have your priorities in order!

I thought you were referring to encounter you may have had with the girl in photo.
After hearing the news, I understand what you are really referring to.

fwh is in Huntington Beach...and he called me once it started. "We are having an earthquake...you should really be here"?
fwh: "It feels like the house is shaking off the foundation"
fuzzy:"Oh, great, remember this is the house we are in the process of purchasing!"
fwh: "oh, yeah!"
Men....OY!

Felt it here too in Mount Washington. I'm about 25 mi west of the epicenter in Chino Hills. 5.8 was the magnitude as reported by the USGS.
My house is on stilts so I have to go out and check the structure. I left my house after the first 15 seconds since it felt like it was going to continue for a while. The shaking seemed to stop after 30 seconds or so.
On first impression, everything seems okay. I'm a native southern Californian, so no worries when it comes to earthquakes.

Natalie and kellie were in LA sunday and Monday but I think they left for Vegas today.
Southern girls are not used to earthquakes.

I tried to call my friend Ray, who lives in Lake Forest, but all circuits were busy (which I guess isn't a surprise). I'm assuming all is well with him...

I'm listening to the live feed I posted above.
There are no reported injuries or major structural damage. A lot of business have had to close due to water main breakage, goods falling from shelves, etc. Some trains are not running and others are "running" at just 20 miles per hour.

I am glad you are all okay.

Since I am working from my home based office today, I was actually shaving when the whole lotta shakin started
I put the razor down and stood under the doorway until it stopped, it lasted about 5 seconds and it did make me a little bit quesey.
No damage here, I think I will make another angry call to our homeowner's association who unilaterally cancelled our Earthquake Insurance for our community last month.
Idiots!!!

I was listening to the news radio station on the way down to Newport (I passed Huntington Beach and I waved in the general direction of Fuzzy's hubby), and there was non-stop gabbing about the quake. It reminded me about a press conference aftger the Northridge quake:
Scientist: "This was a quake that seems to be on an unknown fault line."
Reporter: "How many unknown fault lines are there?"
There is indeed a dumb question out there waiting to be asked.
