Oklahoma City's new NBA team

The former Seattle Supersonics are making their new home in OKC. With the move comes a new nickname, and the field has been narrowed to these six.

IMHO, I'm not too fond of Wind cuz of all of the potential fart references that could be made.

(For some reason, the WGAS option got lost...)

To me, Thunder and Energy sound more like Arena Football teams. I don't really like any of the choices.

I voted Barons but I think Thunder will win.

Wow, what terrible choices.

I voted for (Robber) Barons, as an homage to Clay's and David's theft of the Sonics from Seattle.

I see this joke all the time but wouldn't there be a lot of Barons in the league?

Los Angeles
New Orleans
Utah
Sacramento
Golden State
Philadelphia
Detroit
Washington
Atlanta
Los Angeles, the other team
Houston
Memphis
San Antonio

All those current NBA teams started in a different city. That's almost half the league.

The point is not that a franchise moved, but rather the facts that surrounded the move.

This was a lowlight in the career of David Stern.

When I say the choices out loud, Oklahoma Thunder sounds best.

Is this list of names serious? After reading the article I thought it was a joke. I voted for Wind. Almost as funny as Wizards. The NBA is a joke anyway.

Won't it be the Oklahoma City Thunder? Or whatever winds up being chosen?

Oklahoma Thunder sounds okay, but Oklahoma City Thunder, not so much. At least to me.

LOL! As I read some stories on the Web, it appears that OKC Thunder was chosen for the name, but a local station broke the news prior to the NBA having a chance to announce it (discovered by simply looking to see what domain names were reserved). Thus, the NBA then went out and added the other names (making filing with US Patent and Trademark Office).

At the end of the day, I assume that Thunder will be the name.

Is that the sound of a building collapsing in the background?

It might be wise of you to explain your comment.

Actually, it would be wiser of you to just erase it and hope that those in possession of greater grace will just choose to ignore that you wrote it in the first place. To that end I am not quoting you in my response, so it will not carry over if you opt for the latter.

Nobody stole anything. The team was sold and purchased fair and square. Not to mention Seattle getting to keep the colours, name (and I think the banners if they get another team) plus up to 75 million to boot for a team they neither supported nor appreciated (I'm speaking of Seattle as a collective, not individuals. Obviously.). I should get so stolen from.

The people representing the city of Seattle were the major jagoffs in this deal. I wouldn't be surprised if they choose Barons just as a giant middle finger to them and people such as yourself.

The only two teams in the league who voted against the move had obvious personal biases for doing so which had nothing to do with the people of Seattle or Oklahoma, or the good of the league itself.

I just wish they had taken the Trailblazers. Oh well, as we say every year, there's always next year.

Which two teams voted against it?

Portland and Dallas. The reasons they wouldn't want the move to Oklahoma are pretty clear (to me, at least), and I don't disagree with them. Nor do I really blame them for not being altruistic.

I figured Dallas was one. Why would Portland have voted no? Were they hoping to move to OKC themselves?

The Oklahoma City "Dust Storm" should be an option.

It is one of the relatively few interesting experiences of the lifetime I spent in Oklahoma between '93 and '95.

Howza about the Okie City Buffalo Chips?

Perhaps the Oklahoma City "Orlaters". Goes well with "Sooner"...

I personally think it's more about logistics than anything. Portland and Seattle were up there kind of all by themselves. So it was some easy travel for road games and especially back to backs. Now Portland is going to have to go to hell and back for all of its road games and Oklahoma is quite a hike.

Because somebody had Annie's laptop in Idaho during the entry submissions period.

And then ES made me go Awwwwwwww.

I would have liked being on the dance team. Because I'm a long-leggedy girl, I would have looked good in the dancy outfit, too.
