Special commemorative Lyrically Speaking!

#1 Post by mrkelley23 » Tue Oct 09, 2007 1:52 pm

Here it is, if I can get it to format correctly:

Identify the title of the song and the artist. There is a unifying theme which might help you figure out some of the more obscure ones. See if you can find the Easter Egg!

1. And he's up there, what's that?
Hawaiian noises?
Bangin' on the bongoes like a chimpanzee

2. I find it very very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day's through
Yes I admit it, I am a fool for you

3. Don't hang me up and don't let me down (don't let me down)
We could have fun just groovin' around around and around
Oh my, my

4. In the summer of '53 his mother
Brought him a sister
And she told him we must attend to her needs
She's so much younger than you
Well he ran down the hall and he cried
Oh how could his parents have lied
When they said he was an only son
He thought he was the only one

5. On the low from the Jake in the
Taurus Tryin to get my hands on some Grants like Horace Yeah livin the raw
deal, three course meals Spaghetti, fettucini, and veal But still,
everything's real in the field And what you can't have now, leave in your
will But don't knock me for tryin to bury seven zeros

6. Love had played its games on me so long
I started to believe I'd never find anyone
Doubt had tried to convince me to give in, said, "You can't win"
But one day the sun came a shinin• through

7. He's drunk again, it's time to fight
She must have done something wrong tonight
The living room becomes a boxing ring
It's time to run when you see him
Clenching his hands
She's just a woman

8. Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn`t meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We`re not the ones who`re meant to follow.
Well that`s enough to argue.

9. There's no one home but you --
you're all that's left me to.
And when my love
for life is running dry,
You'll come and pour
yourself on me.

10. They see me rollin'
They hatin'
Patrollin' and tryna catch me

11. Take me to the action, take me to the track
Take me to a party if they're bettin' in the back
I've been working all my life, can't afford to wait
Let me call my wife so I can tell her I'll be late

Just Bumpin'

#6 Post by mrkelley23 » Thu Oct 11, 2007 11:15 am

To see if anyone else wants to play. If you put together everyone's answers so far (the majority of which are correct) you might be able to get the others, via the "Easter Egg" I referenced earlier.

It's not really an Easter Egg, either, not in the original programming sense, anyway. THink of it as a second puzzle.

I see the second puzzle. I just don't know the missing songs.

The only theme I can come up with is that all the ones I could identify are on my Ipod. Doubt that's it though....

Now, keep going:

1. Money for Nothing - Dire Straits
2. I Walk the Line - Johnny Cash
3. Let's Spend the Night Together - The Rolling Stones (or David Bowie if you prefer)
4. Lonely Boy - Andrew Gold
5. I...
6. O...
7. N...
8. A...
9. I...
10. R...
11. E...

The other game, as Nellie Lunatic already made clear, is that the titles or artists' names include a word that is synonomous with money or spending. (If your "I Walk the Line" is correct, I don't see that, unless it's supposed to stretch to refer to a line on a check or keeping within a budget. Or, perhaps this puzzle will be solved by "what doesn't fit.")
Pretend I didn't say that. Duh. Johnny Cash.

Not a clue

What about:

Found a telephone number on a laundry slip
I had a good hearted jailer with a six gun hip
He let me call long distance , she said number please
And no sooner than I told her, she shouted out at me

and

Got a surprise especially for you,
Something that both of us have always wanted to do.
We've waited so long, waited so long.
We've waited so long, waited so long.
