Mad Men

#1 Post by peacock2121 » Mon Jul 28, 2008 12:23 pm

So, I am hooked.

I found the first season on On Demand and am up to 108.

The paper Draper was putting on his wife's tray on Mother's Day was The Poughkeepsie Journal. I'd recognize that paper any where.

What's with that - they can't live in Poughtown and have him return to the office after dinner.

Entertainment Weekly has been drooling over it since last season.

I haven't watched it, but I've liked John Slattery every time I've seen him.

Mad Men is the best show on TV, possibly in the history of TV, IMHO.

Although in last night's show I found myself a little lost. Sometimes the writing is so subtle it goes over my head.

What color are John Hamm's eyes? On Letterman they were blue, on MM they appear brown or hazel. On Letterman, he seemed like a nice, almost goofy, guy. He really is a good actor.

Mad Men is good, but it's ssslllooowwww ...

I enjoy it, probably because I studied journalism and I remember the 60s. My younger sister said, "Nothing happens."

I have both points of view -- there were story lines that seemed to go nowhere.

My vote for best drama, current? DEXTER!!! Noooo contest!

If you go back and look at the first episode of the first season, you'll see that he gets off the train in Ossining.

I, too, am hooked. I've TiVo'ed last night's episode, though...can't wait to start seeing the clues as to the answers to some of last season's unanswered questions (I won't spill any of those questions here, since some may not be up that far in the last season yet, but....there are several!) but it'll have to wait at least until Thursday.

I watched this show when it first started, but then I just lost interest around the time that
Spoiler
Draper's brother showed up, damn I hate spoiling stuff that was last week, much less last season!
and never got back into it.

I voted for your friend, PSM. And, not that it makes a difference, but I actually watched the clip because I don't vote for stuff just because it's someone I know, or someone's friend, or someone's pet, etc. unless I really do think they're good.

And I thought she was great! She reminded me of Joan Allen, both in looks and style (not that Joan Allen is 60's, but you know what I mean. I hope).
Spoiler
I'm darned good and ready.

Wow! She could give the actress who actually does play Joan a run for her money. I voted.

PSM's friend is good and I voted for her, but ....

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I think I met Avis when I was playing NTN at Prince of Wales in PDR. Was she on BAM? Oh yes, I voted for her.

No, she was on 5th Grader. She's a friend of your friend the bartender, I think at a pub in Long Beach.

Ok. that's what it was. She was a friend of fellow actor and bartender Rocky in Playa del Rey. My mind is becoming a sieve.

I saw the one where Sterling had the heart attack today.

I am so lucky I was not born 45 years earlier.

I am getting a brand new appreciation for my mom's world.

On a serious note, I don't think I would ever dream of saying it.

How sad is that?

I also wonder if I will ever stop cringing when I see the pregnant woman (she is/was Wilson's girlfriend on House) drink and smoke.

The kids playing in the car like I used to brings back memories.

I was the age of Draper's daughter, I think.

I wanted to get to this earlier.

I love this show. I loved it last season.

One of the things I love is the subtlety. You can't play on the Internet or talk on the phone AND watch this show.

There is so much richness, so much nuance.

PS - I just voted for Avis.

I hope not.

This is the best show since 6 Feet Under. The only complaint I have with the show is that secretarys weren't allowed to smoke at their desks - we could only do that in the lunch room while the men could smoke anywhere. This show is a few years ahead of me - I started working in an office in 1966 but the values and attitudes are so realistic.
