Million$Password casting in Atlanta 7/25 and 7/26

#1 Post by thguy65 » Thu Jul 24, 2008 1:32 pm

Apparently they will hold auditions at the Marriott Suites Atlanta Midtown on Friday and Saturday (see post #27 on that other board's thread)

I'm hoping these additional auditions are the reason they haven't given me The Call yet.

I went to the Chicago audition and they were at the Hilton for 2 days. They told us taping was August 2-4, so I wonder if they are auditioning for more than those dates.

Geez what are ya gonna do with another Mil? Ya gotta offshore account or somethin? LOL!

Just curious as to what your AP's parting shot when they wrapped with you in phase 3 of the audition?
Didn't want to discourage my friend who was 3 feet off the ground, or on the other hand avoided telling her that she was "a lock"! :D

As they say, baby needs a new pair of shoes.

The conclusion of my in-person, videotaped interview wasn't anything special. It was just sort of "Thanks for coming. Now we'll interview O-man". The thing that got me enthusiastic was the phone call a few days laterfrom an AP who wanted to go over some of the items on my application so he could "package" me for a presentation to the producers. That was on 7/14, and I haven't heard anything since then.

I was told by the AP at the end of the audition to "remember taping will be on August 2-4." The other person who was my partner (not life partner, just the random player partner) asked what happened next and the AP said "wait for a phone call." No call for me.......................YET.

Hmm. I was just in Atlanta. I should have stuck around.

I was scheduled to fly out of Las Vegas at 9:30 tonight and go through ATL in the morning, getting home at 10:30. Mom and dad booked separately, and left Vegas at 10 Thursday morning, so I did standby to get on their flight. We arrived in ATL at 7, and their flight to Charlotte was at 11:15. I had zero chance of getting on that one as it was hellishly overbooked, so I rented a car and we drove home, arriving just in time to get their luggage on the carousel. We liked the idea of being moving and pointed in the right direction, instead of sitting in the airport for several hours (or overnight, for me).

Best of luck Tim! You will be great on the show! I think you are right about the AP's not "making the calls" until after the Hotlanta auditions this weekend. I will check with my friend and see if she got an interim phone call. If she doesn't make it on MDPW, I hope they don't put her on the same Trivial Pursuit episode that I will be on. It was fun doing our on camera audition together for TP, we played off each other very well, but I want us both to win on TP, not just one or the other. (I know I sound overly optimistic about TP, but our send off by the head AP was excellent)!

I went this afternoon. Got there about 2:30, didn't get through until 5:30. If done properly, it should have taken only 45 minutes.

When I got there, I went right up to the sign in desk, was given a copy of the application and a copy of the show guidelines (they forgot to give me a copy of the wavier). I sat in the room for 45 minutes and filled out the questionaire. Basically the same questionaire as BAM.

Finally, Anthony came in and started talking, and talking, and talking, and talking.... mostly about himself and how he was a great AP and how he'd worked on so many shows and how he's got offers from 5 more shows and he's trying to decide which one to take. Said he had worked on a few Mark Burnett shows including Moment of Truth.

He kept talking and talking and talking and talking and talking and talking and talking. He went through the wavier point by point interjecting stories about each line item. Then he went through the guidelines, point by point, again, interjecting stories along the way. Then, he talked and talked and talked more about himself.

Finally, we took the test. Test was way, way easy. 5 "passwords". He gave us 3 "clues".

For those who want to know, here's the clues and passwords:

1. bird, waddles, tuxedo
2. teamsters, guild, together
3. squirm, bait, fishing
4. Psycologist, slang, smaller
5. News, weather, prediction
Spoiler
1. penguin
2. union
3. worm
4. shrink
5. forecast
Passing grade was 100%. How do I know? When we were done, everyone passed their test to the middle and Anthony picked them up. I was on the end and saw the paper the guy next to me turned in. He missed #4 and didn't pass.

There was a 10 minute break so he could "grade" the tests (could have taken him 3 minutes as there was only 22 people in the group.)

He sent in another guy to read off the passer list. 15 people passed.

We were then sent into another room where Anthony returned and talk to us, and talked to us, and talked to us, and talked to us, and then said some more shit about how good he was getting people on the show.

The applications and signed waviers were turned in and 2 people were paired together. Then Anthony turned on a DVD which was a rebroadcast of one of the shows.

Fortunately, the Head Casting Director (an older lady who I know is the one making the picks) came in, got the "pairs" applications/signed waviers and called out the first 4 names.

I was in the first group.

They took pictures and then, fortunately, my partner and I were escorted into the mock game/video tape room. We were taped stating our names, ages, what we do, where we live, and a short, interesting thing about us. I was lively, animated, upbeat the entire time I was there, especially throughout the interview and the mock game. There was a girl, Angie, who asked questions to each of us about something on our applications and a guy (don't know his name) who manned the camera.

Once both of us were done, we did a mock game. Each of us gave and received clues 4 times. I got each password on either the first or second clue. My partner couldn't get many of the passwords. I felt bad, thinking that my clues were no good, but she made the cardinal sin of just standing there with a blank stare on her face, wasting time, instead of saying anything, so that I could give her another clue.

Her 4th round was much better. I tried my clues out on a couple of others after I was done, and everyone got the password within 2 clues. So, I guess my clues weren't that bad, just not good enough for my partner.

After the 4 rounds, we were done. Finished. Over. No 2nd interview. No chat with the head casting director lady. nothing else.

Therefore, I am sure I won't be called back. That's fine. I know these shows don't want me, as a MWAG, on their shows. And I can live with that. I love going through the process. I love experiencing the whole thing. And who knows? Maybe 1 day, one of these shows is going to want me. I know I'd do well on Password. There was 1 other MWAG who passed. He was the hubby of my partner. He had been on Chance of a lifetime.

So, that's a wrap for me for this audition.

For any of the rest of you who live in Atlanta, you should go. Just hope Anthony is not the AP conduction the pre-interview stuff. He likes to talk too much.

Your description of Anthony was so funny and so true. It should have only taken one fourth the time it actually did for the audition.

I was asked nothing about my application. So your audition sounded like it went well.

We had one person in our room that didn't pass, at first. She went to Anthony and he re-graded her test and she "passed." The older woman said to Anthony, no she didn't pass. She made the auditioner step oustide the room and told Anthony she didn't pass, but they would let her audition anyway. It looked to me that the woman's friendi was a friend of Anthony's.
I can't imagine she would get picked anyway, so once they say you didn't pass the test, you are toast.

Thanks for the laughs!

Anthony was the AP who spoke with me on the phone to do my "packaging" for the producers. I hope he didn't just tell them about himself, and he really has some sway with their decision-making.

Do you remember to remember the name of partner/hubby? There weren't too many of us on IYCOAL, and the only MAWGish one I can recall is Bob Glouberman. Not only is a serial game show contestant (he was hung out to dry when ABC cancelled "Show Me The Money" in the middle of his stack, so perhaps he never got paid), but he's acted in many TV and movie productions

Congrats on passing Ace!

Family and work obligations prevented me from attending, but really Password is not my game.

Love the story of the "i'm the best ever" AP! Almost brings back memories of the days of Sonny, eh??

I don't recall that Sonny ever did anything like that.

But it does sound like the auditioners needed a buzzer to sound. "Bzzzzt! Your time's up. Thanks for coming, Anthony!"

So, a couple of months ago, I came here looking for info on an audition for WWTBAM 8/13 in Detroit. But, I may not need it because of my MDP audition last weekend in Chicago. Let me unravel my story...

I'm a big fan of the show, so I designed my own PowerPoint version of the show, where one could control and host the game in his own home with his own words. I posted that on the Game Show Forum, y'know, so other fans could download it and play at home. Well, about a week after posting that, I got this email, on a Tuesday:

Hi Chad,

My name is Jill Scott and I'm a Contestant Producer for "Million Dollar Password. My senior producers asked me to contact you. They saw your Power Point version of MDP and were very impressed. We would like to personally invite you to the audition. We are holding an audition in Chicago on Saturday (July 19th)... If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at mildolpass@gmail.com. Or you can call me directly at ###-###-####. Please do not publish that number. I hope to hear from you.

Kind of cool, right? So, I got my aunts to go with me, and we stayed in a hotel, awaiting the audition. I got at the hotel at 8:20, 40 minutes before the advertised start time of 9. I got in line and was assigned a number, 0032.

We were all ushered into a ballroom, about 120 people in my session. I filled out the five-page application and the release form. Guidelines for proper game play are reviewed (clues that are allowable and those that are forbidden). Sample words are given out to the group, with one half of the room seeing the word while the other half shields their eyes, then people raise their hands and are called upon to give their clue or their guess. This is just to ferret out any issues that the entire group might have regarding gameplay. We were then given a five word test (3 clues given by the contestant coordinators for each word) that I'm nearly certain you had to get 4/5 or 5/5 to pass (since I missed one and made it through, but the man next to me got 2 wrong and did not). They came back and read the names of everyone who passed. (Yay, I got called!)

We then waited to be paired up with another applicant to play the game in front of the contestant coordinators in a separate room (You have to get your partner [or have to have your partner get you] to say five of the passwords in thirty seconds or less.). People are paired by their numbers, so the earlier your number is the quicker you will be done with the process. My partner and I (Russell) then went into the room, where a video camera was set up. We each told our name, age, occupation, etc into the camera. Then, we played the game about four different times. We set a day record, getting five words in seventeen seconds. She told us we might get a call back later that night to come back for the next round if they were impressed enough with our gameplay, personality, etc. Well... at 6 PM that night, I got a call! So back to the hotel I went the next day, with significantly less people in the ballroom.

After going over the rules again, we were led two-by-two into another room. We played the game in front of the camera and a CC again. Also sitting there were the main producers of the show (big difference from yesterday!). We played a few of the main games again (where we broke our record, getting five words in thirteen seconds), and then two of the levels of the end game (getting five out of ten in 90 seconds or less, using no more than three clues). The coordinators put me with my partner from yesterday, with whom I absolutely rocked. The producers noted me for my PowerPoint, so I hope that's a positive!

Now I play the waiting game. The show is taped in L.A. on August 2, 3 and 4. I certainly hope to get a call very, very soon. If it turns out I don't make it, well, as we all know, Who Wants to be a Millionaire has an audition on August 13. ;) I think my chances are kind of good, though!

Way to go Chad!

Nice to see a show that actually wants good contestants!

Wow that's fantastic!
A call sounds very promising!

But boy... auditioning for a game show isn't what it used to be!

At some point, you may be paying THEM for the chance to go on their show and win it back!

Chad, thanks for sharing your story. It would be great to see a dedicated fan like you rewarded with an invitation to be on the show. It's very interesting to see that your opportunity came as a result of posting on a game show message board, and the producers seeing it. A lot of people think that would never happen on WWTBAM, but it's hard to know for sure. Good luck!
