Not a good day #2

Things went as well as they could. To me, the indicator that this was the right time was the thunderstorms that rolled through last night. Midnight hated thunderstorms, and would always try to hide in the smallest space she could find. She didn't even attempt to get up last night, apparently realizing that getting up was no longer possible.

We are sad. But she is no longer uncomfortable or in pain. I think she knew it was time, too. Rest in peace, our friend and companion.

"My best friend closed her eyes last night
As her head was in my hand
The doctors said she was in pain
And it was hard for her to stand
The thoughts that scurried through my head
As I cradled her in my arms
Were of her younger puppy years
And OH her many charms
Today there was no gentle nudge
With an intense “I love you” gaze
Only a heart that’s filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days
But an Angel just appeared to me
And he said “You should cry no more
God also loves our canine friends
He installed a doggie door"

I dog sat for my son's black Lab while son was in Georgia for federal training. For three weeks. When son came to pick her up, we cried like we did when our elder son left for AF boot camp. I can't imagine what it is like to lose a member of the family that has had years to bore into your heart. I'm so sorry but I know Midnight gave you years and years of good memories.

I'm with you, man. I wouldn't wish what we went thru last summer on anyone.

OK now I'm crying. Midnight is better off but that doesn't lessen the hurt.

Oh, gordon, I am so sorry for your loss. I hope that you know that we are thinking of you and yours during this time.

I wanted to share this with you...fwh & I are getting a puppy within the next few months (after we get back from Europe). We have never had a pet together, and I had to do alot of cajoling, but, finally, fwh agreed it was a great idea to have a dog. We are thinking a pound puppy that is mostly lab, and female.

Thank you for posting the poem...
