This is probably one of those deals where there's a lot more than meets the eye. Or less. I hope the latter. More details forthcoming soon, no doubt.

Found this on IMDB:
Christian Bale's attorneys released a statement Tuesday denying assault allegations that led to the actor's arrest in London: "Christian Bale attended a London police station today, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister," the star's lawyers said in the statement. "Mr. Bale who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police. At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr. Bale."

This must all be part of The Joker's plan to turn Bale to the side of evil.

According to this, the "assault" may have been verbal:

Unless I find out that the mother and sister each are worthy of sainthood, I'm perfectly willing to give Mr. Bale the benefit of the doubt.
Anybody can make charges, which may or may not be justified. Even relatives.

I wonder if they asked for money and he said no in an emphatic way and they were out for revenge.

England is a funny place. In America, you are guilty of libel or slander if you print (libel) or tell (slander) deliberate lies about someone.
In England, you are guilty of either if you print or say stuff that the trial judge or jury decides is intended to hurt the object's feelings, even if the stuff is stone cold truth. Kinda goofy, as the dictionary meanings of the words over there are the same as over here, but the legal meanings aren't.
So they have assault charges there based on offensive language? Instead of, like, offensive body-tackles? Boy, do I know people who would be in jail for years & years.
