Look at those Gas Prices

You might remember when this accident happened... March 5, 2000.
Southwest Airlines Flight 1455 from Vegas overshot the runway at Burbank.
The plane crashed through the airport fence, careened across the street and ended up with a collapsed landing gear, right next to a gas station.
But that's not the amazing part - Look at the picture below:

Thanks for posting this. I got this in an email last week, but "that's not the amazing part" photo didn't show up!
I've been wondering ever since what it was! It was one of those forwarded, forwarded, forwarded a thousand times emails, so I didn't bother to ask the person who sent it to me.

I saved 60 cents a gallon today. Price Chopper has this gas deal - I finally found a station that participates that is on my route.
Now, I have to figure out the scams I can use from buying gift cards at the grocery store.

And the funny thing is..... THOSE prices were high for the time! That summer, regular unleaded peaked out here at the unbelievable price of $1.79 before finally returning closer to normal that Fall.....
Just 15 months earlier than that picture, we were paying 65 cents a gallon for gas....

Yes! Finally some good news in the Western media! I just wish I could access my oil money from this spiderhole....

Gas is 12 cents, per gallon, in Venezuela. It must be all those pesky taxes...

That's how much gas was when I bought my SUV in 2001. I bought it right after 9/11 because I wanted to help the economy.

Given how much more gas costs in CA, I'd say you're right.
I remember quite well gas was $1.55 on 9/11, and it steadily went down the rest of that year until it actually dipped below a dollar around New Year's.....
And never again.....

And that's around the time Priceline had "name your own price" for gas, for a short time, before it was shut down. I remember getting gas for $1.30 and being so excited about it because everyone else was paying $1.60 - $1.80.

Hey Mr. Notebook Guy, I was a little skeptical of certain people's memories, so I just retrieved the small notebook I keep in my truck's glove compartment, in which I've recorded data from each fillup since I bought my truck in April 2000. Sure enough, I was paying mostly in the $1.20s and $1.30s in 2001, with my last pre-9/11 fillup on 9/9/01 @ $1.309/gal. For the next few months, the price dropped like a rock, down to $0.879 on 12/31/01. It's been uphill ever since. I don't drive a lot these days, so it's not a big deal to me. I know it is to lots of folks, mostly because it's the only commodity we buy that has its price so prominently posted outside the store.

I don't have a gas notebook, but I still have a bunch of my old gas receipts in my car from when we had the Murphy's out in front of my store and I used the gift card to get the 3 cents off. I had to dig out my receipt from the morning of 9/12/01 a few years ago to prove to my Dad that gas didn't jump up to $2 or $3 a gallon in the wake of 9/11, at least at the legitimate gas stations.
My favorite gas price story was from 1998, the year McGwire hit the 70 homers. One station the day after the season ended offered gas for 70 cents a gallon in honor of Big Mac's mark, and people were lined up all up and down the street to get it since the regular price was about $1.00 and gas hadn't been that cheap since the 70's.
Just 2 short months later in December of 1998, the price of gas everywhere (At least on the MO side of the river) was 65 cents a gallon. I'll bet that's pretty much the same oil that's being used to make the $4.00 a gallon gas 10 years later....
I'll bet most people would swear up and down that gas hasn't been below $1.00 a gallon as recently as 6 and a half years ago, at least outside of the states where it's always outrageous....

The thing I find most amazing about all of this is that apparently there is somebody who cleans out their car even less frequently than I do. Ha!

So who was president when gas was under $1.50/gallon?
Oh yeah, that's right: Clinton. And Bush Sr. And Reagan. And Carter. And Ford. And Nixon...
Thank you, Dubya!
(And thank you, greedy Republicans and spineless Democrats, for continuing to give Dubya funding for his vanity oil wars.)

I never clean out my car. My Dad's the only one who does that because he said he doesn't want to get bitten by a rat. I about had a fit when he dusted off the dashboard a couple years ago. That dust had been piling up rather nicely since I bought it!
My armrest is full of the gas reciepts I speak about. The area between the front seats is full of napkins. My ashtray is full of salt I used to use when I'd go out for fries late at night. I had snacks my nephews brought with them when they went to KC with me in the backseat for over a year before I finally threw them out.
I still have the little windshield sticker from the dealer attached, and 7 of the last 8 city stickers also still cover my windshield since I refuse to scrape them off. The only one that's not there is the 2003 sticker, in which our brilliant leaders decided to try clingy stickers, and it prompty blew out the window....
One look at the inside of my car will quell any impression people may have about me being OCD.....

Just make sure you don't make Evil Squirrel mad or your car could end up like this one.
With all those receipts, it could add fuel to the fire, so to speak.

One of the biggest fallacies about OCD is that people who suffer from it are neat, tidy and always have everything in its place.
Your above post is absolutely filled with ocdosity goodness!

Only if he counts the napkins repeatedly.
