I have a friend

He is a New York Times columnist (he's a real friend - came to my house for Thanksgiving with his kids last year). His name is David Carr. He is a wonderful person. His wife is wonderful. His 3 beautiful girls are wonderful.
David, however, wasn't always wonderful. In fact, for much of his life he was a colossal shit. He wouldn't disagree. He has a book coming out about his life. It is not autobiography per se. It is actual reporting, with interviews and police and hospital records. He wanted to report on his own life because he couldn't accurately remember lots of it.
It was featured in Sunday's NY Times Magazine and got a brief write up in today's Wash. Post. His life speaks for itself. Redemption or revulsion, it is a powerful arc.
I encourage you to take a look.
